[Closed] Help needed - 24" rigid forks to replace awful suspension forks on kids bike

I have seen a few threads about this in the past, but not many seemed to actually link to anything useful and more still seem to link to stuff that the retailer no longer sells.

To cut a long story short, we got a good deal on a Muddy Fox 24" wheel bike for my daughter. The fork, however, is so bad as to be a detractor from the bike. It tops out so hard that it tries to pull the bars out of your hands. It is a 1 1/8 steerer with proper aheadset - no quill stem nonsense.

Is anyone able to advise me on this - ideally I don't want to eff the geometry up totally, but if it lowered the front a bit, it would be a small price to pay. It also needs to have cantilever brake bosses (which is why sticking an old 26" RS Judy I have on it is not an option).

Any help gratefully accepted - nothing flash, just a decent rigid 24" fork with canti bosses, please!

Thanks for the replies - and it is probably what I will do if I can't find anything else - but they are nearly £150 and my daughter is not an avid mountain biker. She just needs a comfortable bike for smooth paths - so I am loathe to spend extra £s on a suspension fork. Does anyone else know of a decent-ish rigid 24" fork with canti bosses?

I know we shouldn't have been swayed by a cheapo suspension fork, but in my defence, the missus sought out the deal and I just went along with it!

Bargain Reba 26” air for me. Running more sag than normal and works a treat.

Look for a set of straight steerer 26" air forks - either Rockshox or as I've got on my daughters bike some 80mm Fox floats.

I've got a pair of straight steerer 26er Judys from years ago, with canti bosses. The problem is that the bosses will be in wrong place on a 24" wheel, no?

Again, thanks for the help - I'm not being deliberately awkward, I promise.

I got some frog forks for my sons 24" Giant that had stupidly heavy suspension garbage originally. You can't buy direct but a frog dealer/lbs will be able to get them in for you, were about £30 and have be great.

Couple of left field ideas; run the Judy on a 26 rim. Might have less effect than you think.
Or, see what the suspension medium is. Bet it's pretty much undamped spring. Take one out? Or try find some old skool elastomers which have a *bit* of damping.
Or, teach her to ride over the front more 😉

I got hold of some old Pace Carbons for my lads Spesh Hotrock. You’d need to either lace the front to a disc hub, or try & get some of the canti bosses (hens teeth - I did the former). They are 420mm & worked perfectly. I might still have them, if your interested.

Would this work? It looks hopeful - https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/f1rst-air-24-mtb-suspension-fork-51499

-- Whoops, already mentioned above; sorry --

There's a cheap, unused RST Omni on Ebay; it looks like the steerer was cut too short so it's never been used and might be worth a look if there's enough steerer left to fit your daughter's bike.

No canti bosses unfortunately but there are these.

you might find a 650c fork with canti bosses, if you are lucky on ebay or have a search. they have the same A to C as 24" forks as you can see here by comparing the two links above and below.
