MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
So there i was in the granny at the front and 2nd on the back, grinding up a short steep bit ready for another decent. I went all girly and decided it was a 1 at the front one at the back job and changed down a gear. I heard a ping as the mech hit the spokes and I sheared the mech hanger. i am presuming it broke due to hitting the spokes but me question is what causes a mech to do this. It wasn't the mech bolt as that is still tight. I did not fall or drop the bike tonight so I can't imagine I bent it. Any other suggestions for the cause of it? replacing the hanger aint a problem . just want to fix the root cause.
p.s. is there an easy way of telling if a mech that is not attached to a bike is bent?
Many Thanks

Had exactly the same happen to me. A total mystery I blame on evil trail spirits.
hanger may have already been bent and / or high / low screws were not in correct adjustment.
It can be hard to see if the read mech is bent with out it being on the frame.
I blame it on using the gears to close to the spokes! Looks like a new hanger then, on with the mech to see if is still straight.
Urgh it was the end of a good ride that still had a good 10 miles in it!
