Hi all.

I am after some help with a new set of wheels I am getting.

The rims are Bontrager rhythm pro tubless models and come with the rim strips for running them tubless.

I have a pair of specialized eskar 2bliss tyres....

How do I ge them both to work together tubless please??

thanks

Steve

Dont know much about working with rim strips but some good sealant will be your friend.

I assume they are the 2Bliss spec of Eskars so shouldn't be too much bother to seal but ypu.will defo.want sealant if you want them to stay up.

It can be worthwhile inflating with a tube to straighten beads out before first tubeless fit but I generally dont.

Once tyre is on with sealant slopped in but not inflated I run some soap solution round the bead. I use car shampoo and water 50/50. I use a paint brush to apply.

Then pump jolly hard and fast on the track pump.

The soap has two functions.
1 it lubricates the bead so it pops in place more easily
2 it helps create the air tight seal at the point of inflation

For stubborn setups I have used neat Halfords advanced car shampoo which is gloopier than my current sealant but washes away with some water once up.

The original seating of the tyre is a bit of a trial and error thing. First few times I did it I nearly threw the wheels in a hedge in frustration. Now it rarely takes more than 10 minutes.

One thing I forgot is you need to spread the sealant out in the tyre. Lots of shaking rolling etc to slop it round then once you've got it inflated a ten minute pedal with lots of swerving will help spread it out. Think thete are some tips on the Stans website.

Aye, watch the Stans vids..
The two tricky but important bits are getting the bead to pop on, then the sloshing fluid round to get a good seal.
There's a few tricks..
To get the bead on put a tube in it for a day or two to stretch the tyre/bead into the right shape.
If the tyre is tight to get onto the rim initially put both beads into the centre bit of the inside of the rim, that helps.

Take a bit of the bead off the put the sealant in (or use a valve with a removable core and inject) pop the bead back in (tight) then pump like mad- it won't seal properly (probably) the first time but its just to get the bead back on.
Then the turning, shaking and flipping. Followed by more rapid pumping up.. After enough of the shaking and flipping it should stay airtight- enough of the fluid should seal it and leave some excess for sealing punctures. If you get air bubbles or hear leaks just repeat the shaking turning and flipping.

The first time I did it it seemed a right pita but after that it gets easier the more you do it.
I had a leaking valve seal so had to do it a coupla times before a bridged valve from an old inner tube solved it.
Since then its been great!
