I'm struggling to find a narrow/wide chainring on a UK site that's going to enable me to keep using my middleburns that have a 5 arm compact spider.

There must be one of there, any ideas?

Do absolute black do one? Or wolftooth

I think you will struggle, 5-bolt was pretty much dropped quite a few years ago so 99% of the new chain rings will be 4-bolt. Could be new crankset time.

It might be worth getting a 4-arm, 104BCD spider, it would give you more choice for chainrings and let you keep your middleburns.

Actually, don't middleburn do a direct mount N/W?

But you could still go four arm.

Can be installed on non- X-Type Middleburn cranks but a longer spindle bottom bracket will need to be used to acheive an optimal chainline

been through this too, 94BCD NW's are hard to find, and the only ones I know of are expensive once you add shipping.

The easier option is just get a new spider, they are easy to swap on Middleburns and will give you access to a lot more choice in rings.

And yes, MB do list a RS7/8 (not X-type) direct mount NW ring, it's expensive though.

SJS are listing them too but currently out of stock

I gave up looking! I got a Shimano road 34t ring, alloy with no ramps/pins and was only £5. Fitted a Superstar chain guide and running an 11-32 9 speed cassette with an old XT non-clutch mech and I've never dropped the chain yet 🙂
