Currently riding a 32.5lb Giant Reign 2 - with a 1x10 11-36 drivetrain and a 2100 gram wheelset, built with straight gauge spokes and 500g rims.
Got a trip to North Wales coming up, cassette range is a bit of a ball ache (but slowly getting used to it and the strength to slog the limited range up hills). The wheels make it feel sluggish on rolling terrain compared to my friends rides.
So, do I lose 450g off the wheels - or go 1x11? I'm thinking of Superstar Ultra-lites laced to ARC 30's with DT revs?
Which is going to leave me to have the most fun on the downs? Without being a bonked, quivering wreck on the descents? ๐
Get the wheels and then do the 1x11 when your current stuff is worn out and SLX is being knocked out at bargain prices.
you'd be lucky to save 500g on wheels, unless you go very light rims.
My hopes on WTB KOM's and my DT ERX1750 are all around 1800gr.
What tyres are you running?
950 gram butcher grids, those are going as well.
Moving to a single ply 2.5 Minion and an Aggressor/Minion SS on the back. Which will be a lighter setup.
I think 400-450G is doable? Hope wheelsets aren't exactly light.
No issues here running arc 27 rear and 30 front on DT Swiss 240s with revolution spokes. 1643g
Reckon I could get pretty close to that with the Superstar hubs.
Okey-dokey. What rims are you planning to use?
Maybe that chaps mix, ARC 27 rear with an ARC30 out front. Seems quite sensible if I'm going to run a slimmer tyre on the rear ๐
Thanks guys.
