Ok I'm after a dropper post in 27.2 flavour X-fusion hilo or a gravity dropper classic
what's the general consensus???
Cheers
My HiLo is great, no complaints here...
My Gravity Dropper Turbo Multi is great, no complaints here...
Turbo, not Classic, would be my advice if you go gravity dropper. Haven't used a HiLo but my gravity dropper's been fantastic, more reliable than many non-dropper seatposts 😉
why not the classic, just looking at the prices on chain reaction big difference between classic and turbo prices

Not used the Hilo but the GD just works, it's a bit more ££ from what I remember but it is simple and just keeps on going. It's easy to service, parts are readily available and I don't think it looks all that bad!
been using a hilo for 6 months with no issues, got it cheap from a german online shop whose name i cant remember
actionsports.de had em cheap.
I have a Gravity Dropper on the hard tail and although it's OK, I'd not buy another. I've had it about 6 months and serviced it three times as it was getting sticky. It's showing sligns of wear on the inner section.
It's one of those things that people say are great and that you can service it yourself - this generally means it needs lots of servicing!
I'm going to make sure my next hard tail frame takes a 30.9/31.6 post - I've been using a Reverb in my other bike and it's been great.

I've cleaned mine 3 times, and replaced parts once, over 3 years of constant all-year use (I bought it used as well so no idea how much use it had before my 3 years!) TBH one of those times, it really just needed a wee adjustment but it only takes 5 minutes to give it a full clean so I did on general principles.
As long as you keep the outer gaiter in place (and I mean religiously here, it's what keeps the post working) and you don't let it develop too much play (as that'll score the inner tube) they go on and on.
My KS needs more attention than that, and is much more hassle to work on.
I don't know what you're doing to need to service a GD frequently. I've had mine 18 months, on my lone MTB which gets a long ride a few times a week plus often daily commuting, ridden in all weathers, and I've removed and cleaned and lubed the inner post three times, changed the cable inner once (it snapped) and never done a full service on it. And I drop and raise my seat a lot, maybe a third as often as I change gear.
I had waited weeks for a Kind Shock Supernatural 272 from Action Sports, but they never got their delivery in time for a Spain trip this weekend. Went for a s/h Hilo off here and got it yesterday ... seems very nice.
I briefly had a GD and never got on with it. I'm not an all or nothing kinda guy so wanted infinite adjustment. Yes I know you get multi droppers, but that's still quite restrictive.
To me it comes down to are you an all or nothing kinda guy or an infinite adjustment kinda guy? Buy the one for the job dependng on your answer.
The hard tail gets used a fair bit in the wet and the boot has always stays on and I do look after my bikes. The post goes up and down more than I change gear (it's on a single speed!) I find that if I don't strip it, clean and lubricate it regually it doesn't want to clunk into it's raised height correctly. Maybe I'm unlucky or being stoopid, but just reporting my thoughs for younggeoff. Can't comment on the other post as I've not used one.
I have had a GD classic for ~ 5 years now. I have lubed it regularly and changed the cable twice (I think). I have stripped and rebuilt it once.
It was used all the time in all conditions (including 2 Alps trips). For the last 2 years it has only been used in crappy conditions on my winter HT.
It continues to work great though definitely feels very 'clunky' in comparison to the Reverb on my full suss.
If the Reverb was available in 27.2 I would get that but no issues in recommeding the GD
Hicksy - Have you tried loosening the collar by half a turn. That happened to me after my full service. Slightly looser collar cured it
I've used a Gravity Dropper for a few years and i'm very pleased with it - not the prettiest peice of kit, but it works well and hasn't let me down. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it 🙂
Yes, the collar position is critical but it's easy enough to get in the right spot. I'll agree that it feels clunky but as it's down when I want it to be down and up when I want it to be up and requires essentially zero maintenance then it's doing its job!
Mine didn't like the way the Hope QR ovalised the seat tube - been perfect ever since I put a Thomson non-QR clamp on. The rubber boot has worn so it's not tethered to the top of the post and it's still working great despite the reduced weather protection - I'm going to order a couple of new boots and some shims (the current ones are fine but it seems sensible to plan ahead) before the proper wet weather arrives.
Many thanks for wise words from you all, rutland had the hilo at a good price and a bit of cashback thru quidco so I've gone for that.
