Im in the market for a ful suss XC Trail bike

My old 2002 enduro expert is too heavy and not good at climbing so im after somthing nimble for the south downs and the occaisional trip to wales.

heres two bikes im considering

Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon 2009
or

Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 2010

heres a comparison chart showing both bikes:

Any thoughts/ help/advice would be much appreciated.

Also should i be considering any other bikes around the £2000 mark? like the Lappiere zesty 314:

or

Stumpy Expert Carbon 09 for my money, no doubt.

You really need to try them though and see what you like.

Why not look at a boutique build? For example, i could build you a Chumba XCL for around 2K with a good level spec.

Giant Trance. Light, rides brilliantly, and excellent VFM

You pay a lot for a bike which is not exactly super light, I weighed the stock £2000 bike (from a couple of years back) over 27lbs, a good pound heavier than the equivalent Stumpy whilst having less travel.

Trek Fuel EX would be worth a look actually.

I mention it because it is a good compromise between XC and 'trail', the new ones take a 120mm fork and the single pivot makes it cheap and easy to maintain. I agree that if the OP is after the racier end of XC then it is not ideal. just giving options to look at....

Hmmm, tricky between the 2009 carbon Stumpy & the 2010 Stumpy comp.

My list is currently looking like this:

2010 Stumpy Elite/Expert
2010 Fuel EX8
2010 Zesty 314

i would build up a giant trance with some revelations, XT mechs and brakes, pro2hubs on 717xc rims, full length outers on the cables, sram attack shifters, aerozine cranks, and a thomson inline stem to keep the saddle foward...... oh no hang on, i did.

No it's not, one's a superior bike to the other, 2009 one all the way!

If you want an awesome climbing bike, maybe one of these? Pronghorn XC or Trail. New shop so discounts aplenty.

Currently have a 2006 Kona The King 26lb XC race bike with 4" of travel, been looking at a new bike and seriously considering an Orange ST4
