First post here after lots 'o lurking. I spend most of my time on MTBR forums, but I thought I might get some insight from the STW crew. I've ordered a Summer Season from on-one, and am completely jazzed to get the bike. Problem is that the turn around and communication has been, let's say "different" than what I've experienced with other companies. I know they have a reputation for doing things their own way, and I don't want to be a pest, but I can't quite figure if this is on par or if there's been a real problem. A guy not far from me had his bike on the doorstep 12 days after he placed his order. What would be normal? Thanks for your help, K.

On One are usually pretty quick. Has it been shipped yet? could possibly be stuck in customs?

communication has been, let's say "different"

you mean either no answer or one word answers to emails i guess?

that did get my goat when dealing with on one but to be fair i guess he would spend all of his time answering numpty questions from eejits like us he'd never get anything done!!

postage always quick with the two frames ive ordered

I doubt you'll have a problem, and if you do just ask and they'll sort it. I know when I've ordered kit from the USA it can get stuck in customs for a week or two.

After reworking the spec. , the bike was due to be built on the 12th. After that the bikebuild cue page went down. I emailed to see if the bike shipped early this week and got a , "tomorrow." reply. Haven't gotten a shipping confirmation/tracking number yet. I also don't know for sure what I'm paying for the bike. The original parts ran out of stock, then the OS bars and stems became available so I requested that they get changed over. Every change should have ended up costing less, but a lot of the listed prices have increased in the past weeks, so I don't know? Tell me they always get everything sorted in the end, and I'll rest easier. K.

They are great bikes but you have to understand that they are yorkshire based and have yorkshire employees, it's a bit of a cultural and genetic backwater, a bit like florida but with hills ๐Ÿ˜€

When it turns up, go out and hammer the **** out of it, they are at their best when ridden like you really want to break them.

To be fair On One's customer service is a bit shite, but they don't pretend it isn't.

My experience recently was (and it's not a big deal really but given the ass kissing that goes on I guess it fair that I mention it) I realised I wanted a headset after I had placed an order for a frame, I asked that bloke who posts on here and he said 'maybe, best give the other bloke a call' so I did and the other bloke said 'it's probably already shipped you'll have to order it from the web site', got the 'it's shipped' mail for the frame two days later and the frame turned up the day after that.

So I ordered the headset from somewhere else. Frame is great though.

So, if I don't find out soon, is a phone call the best way to make sure it's handled ( with the time difference it's not easy)? Email is a headache for small companies, I understand, but it's best for me. Does it help if I sound desperate? I'm probably a couple weeks away from being desperate but I'm not above acting if it helps.... actually, I guess I should just settle down a bit and count it as the cost of getting something offbeat and cool (supercool really). Thanks boys! K.

Have you tried asking a question on this link http://getsatisfaction.com/onone?

It's read by members of on one staff and they are usually pretty quick to answer.

Yeah, another vote for getsatisfaction.com - worth a go I reckon.

Yup, you get quick, but still pretty limited info on the getsatisfaction page. No worries, Roter Stern assures me they always get it sorted in the end. ๐Ÿ˜€

MOJO-K - andy@planet-x-bikes.com says drop him an email and he'll sort it.

I wondered if it was about this order - http://getsatisfaction.com/onone/topics/shipping_order_kc607110006790 - but am not sure as I'm not there any more.

Yes, we need more foreigners on here ๐Ÿ™‚

Where you from Mojo? You have to remember that when dealing with UK companies you have to dramatically lower your expectations of customer service ๐Ÿ™‚

they have a reputation for "doing things their own way", but from my personal experience of buying a bike and a few other bits in separate transaction, that way always equated to very quick turnarounds, near immediate responses to email and telephone queries and generally commendable stuff.

i'd try to get them on the phone, if you can. i imagine you'll get a pretty informative response.

I get a very fast response when I buy stuff from them. But I work in Castleford, so I ring them in the morning and drop into the warehouse to pick up at lunchtime.

May not be possible fromt'states.

My Inbred ended up delivered to a not very nearby porn shop. Oh and the first frame arrived bent. All very Yorkshire.

All sorted in the end and loving it.

But we did personally send a chap around to collect it from the adult store, and get it to you.

A few hours/minutes later I presume depending on who it was! ๐Ÿ˜‰

That would be the most bizarre excuse for entering "gentlemans shop" ever!

"errrr I'm just picking a bike up, hey is that a new kind of seatpost? Oh blimey, it isn't, bye!!!"

To be fair Brant did respond very quickly to my 'please dont make go to a porn shop to collect my frame' email.

I suspect the unique circumstances helped.

You know if you do a google search using the key words "inbred" and "porn shop" this thread probably won't even register...anywho.. So it turns out, the bike arrived today no problems. Just never got notice. It pleases me to be called a "foreigner" and you can refer to me that way all the time ๐Ÿ˜‰ I live in the northeast, kind of between NY and Boston. The pic. above is from a private trail behind my shack. ( yes, I'm the luckiest boy alive) The riding style here is often referred to as cross-stuntry. kind of a freeride/XC fusion, but I think techy lines on natural features are way more appealing than northshore style building. Bikerag.com is the local site if anyone's really interested in what goes on here.
So thanks for your help. I think I might just kick around here more often as the wit on here is just that much sharper than the other forums I've been hanging at. peace to all K.

Hi M-K, nice pic, never been to the North East, but from reading Bike mag since it came out your part of the world has some beautiful riding, 'specially in the Fall. I think you'll love the 456, Inbred's have a magic quality that gives them a ride quality way above the actual cost of the frame. I've got two, an 853 singlespeed with carbon forks, and a 567, which looks like your Summer, but has a beefed up headtube and gussets to take up to a 7" fork. I've got 160mm Nixons on mine now and It's a riot to ride. I wouldn't swap it for anything, seriously. I love the way it looks and rides, it's just 'right', somehow.

Mojo, Where are the pictures if it has arrived?

I currently have 3 in on-ones in the garage, a scandal 29er, inbred 29er ss and a ti456 and they are all pretty decent bikes and all get used, quite a lot.
Cross-stuntry is a new one on me and sound like MBUK speak, I think we do a similar style round my local trails but we call it 'falling off a lot and riding badly extreme' (TM). Enjoy the bike and post some pics of your local stuff, where is the nearest international airport and is it worth spending a day on a plane to get there?

Your lawn needs raking, mowing, landscaping and some daffodils would be nice for spring. Your trees appear to be tired, lazy or both, get them to stand up straight.

Your valves don't line up with your tyre logos and you have too many gears...

apart from that, nice.
