Were trying to get out at work with a couple of lads. Theres me (fat lad with no fitness), an ex marathon runner (pretty fit) and the young lad from work (21 ish) whis super fit. However the young lad has a ns core bike running bombers. This has no front derailleur ad the cassette (hes gone from 5 speed to 9) has very little range on it. At a recent trip to Cannock chase the poor lad was out of his seat the whole route. While hes fit enough to do this its bloody hard work for the lad and im wondering if we can fit something like a larger range cassette or something to make it easier for our next trip?

Is this possible? What do we need to look at?

Cheers

Deore 12-36 9 speed cassette for about £18 should do the trick. Gives a bit more range, though there are a few big jumps in the ratios. Might need to adjust the b-screw, mech should have enough capacity I guess unless it's a super short cage jobby

smaller front chainring might be easiest and make a bigger diffrence?
