Whats the best light to complement a bar mounted vsion 4?
After something with a nice spot. Tride the vision 4 on the helmet and its too floody.
Was thinking of a vision 2 as it gives 480 lumens and a lot of flexibility as its the same battery, but have also thought about an exposure joystick, however thats only 240 lumens.
Does the lumen count really matter? Would it not get overpowered by the vision 4, hence the need for a more powerful helmet unit? Is the joystick a better 'light profile' than the vision 2 for a helmet mount?
The vision 2 is likeable due to the flexibility and different output options, however I also like the 'all in one' nature of the joystick. Cost seems the same for both but I'd rather a spot profile than flood.
Don't know how it compares to the hope, but I really like my joystick, its a great unit. All I use most of the time.
Will have you considered a Minewt?
I run the Vision 4 on the bars and either a Joystick or Ayups on the helmet. The Ayups are much better IMO - lighter, brighter. The only downside is that I have the battery on my Camelbak strap, so can be a bit fiddly. I use the Joystick in spring and late summer for those rides when it gets dark more than half way through, Ayups all the rest of the time
Ayup- the spot version works well on helmets
I did try a minewt set and they were very good, totally forgot about them. What are the helmet adapters like?
Not sure - genks sells em tho as do 18bikes
Is the jostick mainly a spot as opposed to flood?
josticks glow 😉
Wonder how much faith should be put in claimed lumens after seeing an add for lights in the latest mag which claimed Lupens lights only offered just over half they're claimed lumens. Ayup on my head.
I use a Minewt in conjunction with a Hope 4.It works brilliantly ,the helmet adapter works well.Secure and unobtrusive.
I like the idea of he quick release mounts for the joystick - quick release handlebar for the commuter, quick release helmet mount for the night ride. IMO thats what lets the hope system down - needing to undo the allen bolt to change the mountings. I know its only a 1 minute job.
Is there an extension cable for the minewt or does the battery need to go on the helmet?
I use a L&M Stella on me 'ead with a Hope 4 on the bar. It works very well, as the Stella is very spotty (focused!) and just gives you some detail going into corner where the Hope's not pointing. It's very light and compact, the battery's light enough to also mount on the rear of the helmet, rather than in Camelbak. It's ideal!
Is the stella compatible with the L&M Li-ion battery used by the ARC? I already have a battery and charger and head unit only can be had for £80.
