bottom bracket thread is shafted!
anyone know of a place, or better still, have experience of a helicoil repair company local(ish) to leeds?

Botom bracket I doubt you can get a helicoil. I think you need an insert fitted if the thread is buggered - try a frame repairer - argos perhaps?
