Anyone used the HEL Brake Hose kits?
What's they like?
P
My partners had them fitted to her new Yeti. Bike shop said it was really easy to fit as it came with a whole assortment of fittings to suit different brakes.
LBS reckoned it was alot better than the usual Goodridge kits he has to fit for customers.
I will be getting a set for my Orange sometime soon. Can't recommend HEL kits enough. Get it!
Looks trick in Black!
Cheers Nick...
I think a purchase my be in order!

top brakelines - can't recommend them enough
easy to fit and unlike goodridge they don't try to fleece you for fittings every time
You do however, need a dirty great vice to adequately swage the ends. You will stand no hope of acheiving the required pressure for swaging with a set of pliers, molgrips or similar.
Swaging?
popular in the motorbike world, can't say i have experience but they are recommended
Popular just about everywhere high pressure hose unions are required.
swaging is crimping the fittings onto the end of the hose.
I brought a set when they were on offer at CRC. I can't say they made a huge amount of difference to the feel of my brakes (Hope minis). You'll certainly need a vice to get the ends crimped on.
There aren't any seals between the hose fitting and the caliper if you're using old-style shimano brakes, which meant mine leaked badly from this point.
This was almost certainly due to my mechanical ineptitude and general stupidity (and if anyone knows what I did wrong, I'd love to know), but even I've never managed to get it that wrong when fitting goodridge or OEM hoses...
I'm not buying them again.
That what the brass washers are for. You crank them hard enough and because they're relatively soft, they make the seal.
Same as hope brakes.
The only criticism I have of mine is that I can't shorten the front one now I've transferred them to another bike.
I swaged one end and fitted some spare goodridge fittings to the other to deal with that.
Wonder if I've got some spare Goodridge fittings? I may have (having used Goodridge on t'other bike)
(also wonders quite why I need to shorten the hose in the first place - the new bike has the same bars, same stem, same headset, longer headtube & longer fork (Marz 55 vs Pike) but there's loads of hose flapping around)
I have used them, easy to install and very very good!

Aha. Wish I'd known that or there were some instructions with mine to tell me!
