[Closed] Health question - low HR, near fainting?

Hi all-

Question on heart rate. I'm reasonably fit, 40 years old, doing a number of bike races each year and commuting to work via bicycle nearly every day. I've always had a fairly low heart rate - 48-55 would be normal. I'm finding it even lower now - 44-45, and just measured (during middle of day) at 39.
I'm also starting to get dizzy spells, often very close to fainting, if I get up (off the sofa, etc) too quickly. On the couple of times a year I get my blood pressure checked it's well and truly in a normal range. I eat a reasonably healthy diet, and not on any medications.

So - I guess, questions are - should I be concerned about this, or is this just a symptom of over-training/stress at work? See a doctor, or just relax (on work and training)? I've done some surfing on the interwebs and came across bradycardia, but not sure if this is something I should be concerned about.

Thoughts from the group wisdom?

See a Dr.

Could be numerous things but if it's happening regular then it needs checked.

Let a trained professional tell you what it may be. Doctor interweb can and does get it wrong and you can scare yourself unnecessarily.

As drac says - low pulse is fine if you are maintaining your BP. the symptoms you get are of low bp or postural hypotension. worth getting checked out.

could be nothing, could be a sign of serious issues

I have low BP and postural hypotension - I have just learned to live with it - always get up slowly especially out of bed. I have scars from fainting and hitting my head on the way down

Bradycardia just means slow pulse yours could be slow for medical issues or just as a reflection of your fitness.

My resting pulse dropped to around that level or even lower at times. I'd been feeling a lack of motivation and tiredness but hadn't put it down to anything. Anyway, whilst being checked for something else they discovered my thyroid had packed in. Before the test they'd put my low rate down to me being fairly fit. I'm now on treatment and getting back to normal. I'd get it checked.
