Slowly building up a scandal and now thinking of headsets which I know nothing about so could just do with some advice really.

Are there any circumstances where an integrated is better than external or external better than integrated?

Any pointers welcome, thanks

A scandal won't take an integrated or semi-integrated headset as far as I'm aware...so there's your answer!

Think this is correct:
Integrated = frame has machined cups to allow bearings to run directly in the head tube.
Semi-integrated = headset cups sit inside head tube like integrated, but can be replaced.
External = What you need

Scandal has an internal (semi integrated) top cup and and external lower one.

Look at an On-One Smoothie for an example.

What I love about this forum is how people authoritatively give advice that is pretty useless and slightly uninformed or just wrong.

There are 2 generations of Scandal. The first generation Scandals take a standard 1'1/8 external headset. The newer ones take a "Mixer" headset. Check On One for details of what you actually need. This may also vary depending upon the fork you are installing ie whether it has a standard steerer or a tapered one (your crown race will change or you will need to fit a spacer.

Didn't notice that OO made a scandal V2, so apologies if my advice was either

pretty useless and slightly uninformed or just wrong.

It's a new 26er scandal, vertical dropout and that's all I can say about it really!
Does this help anybody in letting me know what headset it needs? Had a quick look on OO site and nothing jumps out

When you look at the frames on the OO site it tells you about the headtube in the long frame description (if you could call it that) not in the frame specs... Where you'd think it should be ๐Ÿ™‚

SiB - Actually looking at the 26er Scandal page it mentions nothing about the headtube! Only on the 29er pages does it say a mixer headset is required.

If you look at your frame and both top and bottom of the head tube are the same size then you should be good with an external headset.

It may be your best bet to email OO for a proper answer.
