Ok, so i have my shiny new Cane Creek S8 headset but no dedicated tools to fit it with. Making a press won't be much of a problem, a few minutes in work tomorrow with a length of 8 or 10mm threaded bar, a couple of nuts and washers and two good pieces of model board will make that easily enough.
However, i don't have the removal tool. I could use a screwdriver to tap it out but i'm worried about scoring the inside of the headtube plus wrecking a good screwdriver.
So, what bodges have you lot come up with?
Any tips on fitting as well would be helpful ๐
plastic pipe, cut half way up so its splayed into 4 pieces with a bung wedged in it (like a cork or something) to hold them apart.
bash away with no risk of scoring.
have you got a piece of pipe lying about that fits. I've used 22mm copper(mainly as that was in the garage), cut an X in the end (two 2" cuts at right angles, splay ends till they mate to bearings and tap out.
I'm 'hoping' that the guys in the maintainance shop will have some old bits of pipe i can scavenge, i'm baulking at paying the best part of twenty quid for something similar!
