Can anyone help im trying to find a headsset to fit a frameset, my frame has 44mm straight internal headtube (ie it doesnt have the internal shoulders to hold the bearings) and the headtube Outer diameter is around 56-57.

All the headets i can find cover an outer diameter of 50mm, so i will have a step around the headtube which i think will look crap.

this may be the only option but it seems all the new frames i see everything lines up and have neat line

the frame is a 2010 Bergamont Team platoon (dont ask!)

i have everything ready to fit just need to sort a bloody headset out!

anyone got any ideas?

THanks

Nukeproof Warhead 44IISS (or similar from Hope etc), assuming you want to run a 1 1/8th steerer fork in a 44mm headtube.

thanks, but the OD on the nukproof is only 50mm so i will have a 3mm gap all round as my headtube OD is 57mm ish

thanks again

Ah ok, I see what you are saying. Check also the Hope tech sheet on their headsets

I didn't think the OD would matter, as the cups sit inside the head tube, but have just looked at how the cups sit on my Mega, fitted with a 44IESS, and there is a lip that sits on top/bottom of the head tube, flush with the OD.

I have used Nuke proof, FSA and Hope 44mm headsets and all are much of a much ness on the OD, I think you will strugle to find one with a larger OD.

What is the bike specced with when sold new?

I think you would only really know there is a line there as you have built it. At the top it is going to have to taper into the stem any way.

[edit] From my very shaky German it looks like some of the original bike were fitted with a Syncros Hardcore Inside, Semi Integrated 44mm headset, a quick google of this show it to be of very similar design to the other zero stack headsets so would have left a lip in the first place. [/edit]

Carefull masking arround the headtube and some black paint? Are you sure you're measuring it correctly, 3mm is a lot of extra aluminium on an XC frame!

yep i think your right...

The frame is a 2009/10 and i am struggling to find the original spec.
I blagged it on a recent china visit with work.
i have found that the 2011 has an - FSA Orbit ZS-3 1-1/8
but this still presents me with the same issue. i think i will go for the nuke proof or similar, at least i will be able to build it up and use it

THanks for your help

Henry
