Think I may have been a bit hamfisted and shortened my chain a bit too much.
Big chainring/big cog:
The top pulley wheel doesn't appear to be in danger of smashing itself to bits by hitting the cassette, and it shifts into the big cog without any jamming, although it does jam a bit going back down to the second biggest cog on the cassette.
The thing is, it does look a bit like the NOPE! pic from the Park Tool website, which has got me doubting myself.

So should I add another link....although I think it would have to be a full 2 to end with a male link to fit the KMC missing link..to be on the safe side, leave it or just photoshop an extra link in?
FYI: 11-28 rear cassette / short cage mech / 34-50 Compact Chainset
....oh, and KMC 10sp missing links are fun to remove aren't they?
*orders KMC missing link removal pliers*
Check at the other extreme i.e smallest front and smallest rear.
Does it look too long?
If the answer is "no I could get another link in there" then I'd add another link.
I just turned a cheap pair of pliers from the pound shop into link pliers, easy to do with a grinder.
in theory that's a gear you should never be in.. but yes it looks too short. you can remove missing links pulling on a gear cable wrapped round it, use gloves though!
Yes that's too short, probably needs 2 or 3 more links in it
Its borderline but the mech can take it - Id leave it since you will rarely if ever be in that gear - and if you do its not going to break anything
I think it's borderline, and not quite as bad as the Park Tools PIC - the chain in their pics is almost a tangent to the cassette. Neither extreme is a gear you'll tend to use so I'd leave it myself.

Rightio! ๐
Looks perfectly fine.
I'd call that perfect (assuming a multiple chainring setup).
one link extra if any, but will run fine as is.
generally when sizing up a chain on a triple I go small/small and make sure the chain clears the top jockey wheel on its way to the chainring.
lovewookie thats how i do mine, as long as possible with the mech still able to take the slack.
I'd leave it, as long as you don't feel any tightness with the chain on the largest cog whilst changing up into the big ring. Also, if you can lift the mech cage and put a bit of slack in the chain, it'll be OK.
It should be a rare event that you find yourself in that gear anyhow, and you wouldn't use it for any length of time either.
did you spec the mech or did it come on a bike? 11-28 is an mtb range innit? Might be better with a medium cage mech, bit late now tho (unless you got an old mech lying about, supposed to be easy to swap cages around).
Looks slightly short big/big but about as long as I'd go small/small.
Did you measure it before you installed it? Big-big without going through the derailleur, then add two links, cut, thread and rejoin.
If you ever use Big Big ,I will come down there and give you a wrist burn. ๐
You will be fine just use the gears properly ๐

The lastest 105 mechs are good for 30T but not sure of the lower range. I run an old style 105 mech with a 12x30 and it is ok.
There are plenty of vids on [url=

Took me a few seconds before I had to stop trying to work out what a wrist bum was.
I'm strangely disappointed now.

Yes. I may have been drinking and watching a film at the same time, though.

It could be a disaster with even a tiny bit of chainsuck.

Anyway, never mind the chain ,have you got those brakes working with your choice of cables ? ๐
If it was on a single ring set up I'd say it was too short as you'd end up using it a fair bit and there's not a whole lot of room for error there. As it appears to be on a road/cx bike with a double of triple on the front I'd say its fine. There is still a bend as the chain goes through the mech and you shouldn't be in big-big anyway, so you're good to go.

Well...I ordered a SRAM Slickwire kit, as they say they are made for road bikes with discs, but they only bloody have 1700mm of outer housing. So no good on a bike with full outers on the brakes. So just ordered some Jagwire ripcords, and will swap the inners for road ones.
Just wondering to get white or black, though 8)
Jockey wheels will wear fast like that, I know I've done it. I went big big plus 2 links, it worked great but looking back was defiantly too short.
