Trying to get a new quote for the mrs. She paid £200 last year and no claims through out the year so an additional years no claims bonus. The cheapest I can get is her renewal which is £250 and the chepest online quote I have is £300. I know that prices are going up etc etc but seems like a big jump! Tried the money saving expert way and that didnt get it any lower either. Will ring up her current insurers and see if they can do a better deal later but I havent go anything to bargain with!

[EDIT] Doh wrong forum!!! Thought I could change it back with the edit - sorry! [/EDIT]

They seem to go up every year, but you should be able to get a slightly cheaper quote as a new customer than the renewal quote.

Try all the aggregator sites like comparethemarket, moneysupermarket, gocompare, etc.

i got my renewal and it was £430 compared to £390 for the last year (Nov 08-09). Don't bother with the comparison sites.....just try Aviva - I got mine for £293 - BARGAIN.

RSA quoted me an extra £100 this year so I called them up and they dropped it to less than last year's.

Do an online search then call to negotiate - especially if you're looking to stick with the same provider.

A - shop around
B - haggle (mine went up £100 (about 25% and then down 25% after I adgued my case - Direct Line)
C - be uninsured (and remove your name from the V5), you will become impervious to speeding etc etc convictions and you won't need to buy any road tax, it will stop the arseholes (sorry police) sending you officious letter informing you that you've been very naughty and left goods on display in your car whilst it was in a car park. Also if you ever have an accident on a motorway and the person that you drove into dials 999 and informs the emergency services that they have been hit by a car with no road tax disc on display and the driver cannot provide any proof of identity so would it be possible to confirm that the name you have been given ties to the make/model/registration you will be told to "piss off that's not our job".

Mine went down by £300 this year...but then I've only had a car for 3 years.

In response to the OP doesn't your no claims discount cap at 5 years with most insurers so you won't get a better deal for having 6 or more years claim free?

@gusamc - the only problem with C is that if you physically get pulled over by the cops you'll get a pretty hefty fine would you not? (Or the car impounded/crushed as it doesn't belong to you and is un-taxed)
