Good evening,
Im early 50s just been diagnosed with being at risk of being a diabetic in the future due to other medical conditions and want a hardtail to cycle to work and to go on some easyish trails. I have a Vitus dee29 which I love but wish to spend a little more (without going over the top price wise) and would like gears and front shocks/suspension. As Im tall and slim I favour the larger frame size too
Ideally I would like a 29er as Ive got used to this wheel size.
Many thanks for all your help.
Not too sure whether to go for a good used or new

Thank you perchypanther for your message. Unfortunately I had a look at it in Halfords earlier in the week and to be honest I simply don't like the look of it.

Hi, I have got a 2014 Cannondale F29 5 in large. It is in good condition as I ususally ride a full suss. I would let it go for £600 and am near Basingstoke. Don't really want to post.
email if you want more details

As to used/new, really it depends a lot on how good you are spotting potential problems and how comfortable you are with sorting them out. Brakes and forks are going to be the things to really watch on a HT I think.

Clearly you'll do much better for the money with a good, SH bike. While £5-600 is a fair old chunk of cash, it puts you in an awkward place for new bikes. If you're planning to ride it quite a bit you'll seriously notice the benefits of better forks and drivetrains than you'd get at this price point. Don't neglect wheels, either- a good set of wheels is the best single improvement you can make to any lower priced bike - and quite a few expensive ones too.

The new voodoo hoodoo from halfords. Launches Monday. 1x10 deore, acera hydro brakes, long slack geo, 120mm suntour air forks, 27.5 tyres with maxxis ardents. £550. Its basically last years bizango gone 1x with 27.5 wheels. The colour is proper minging but rides genuinely good.

I have the pine mountain, it's ace. Can't see I've missed front suspension too much (yet), 3" tyres at lowish pressures give a nice bit of squidge. Rides really well, impressed so far 🙂
