I have fitted some new pace rc41 100mm forks to my giant xtc frame and they feel ...shite ! When slow cornering they just want to dive from under me,and when riding straight on the flat they feel they want to topple to the left or right.I thought it was the head set but that feels fine and then i thought it was the tyres but doubt it's them.I have also pumped the forks up to about 90psi which makes them pretty firm for my weight (10st 12lb)
Any clues ? Hard to explain but hoping someone can relate, cheers

This might be a really stupid question but have you got them the right way round? On Pace forks the arch goes on the back.

Are they definitely 100mm? I don't know the Pace range tbh but I thought RC41s were longer than 100mm.

Yep,the c-type 100mm.I know what you are getting at,it has that long travel collapsible feel to it !

What did yo have on it before? Might the Pace have a longer axle-to-crown length?

Alternatively, and i know you have said it isn't the tyres, the only time I have had anything like you describe was when I didn't have enough air in my Nobby Nik front tyre and the side-wall collapsed under cornering. But you wouldn't think this would affect riding straight!

Or, have you checked your headset? Is the crown race properly fitted? Does the wheel look straight in the forks (not mis-aligned somehow)?

I had the rc36 previously, the stem has been cut to exactly the same length.I have got new maxxis (ignitor) tyres and they are tubeless which is not what i'm used to using..so maybe it's that.I have always run high pressures and have maybe got used to that, and the lower pressures i am hoping to use on the tubeless set up could have that "foreign" feel to them.
Not the head set, feels smooth and free.

Is the stem on straight? Sounds daft but it could make the difference.

The only time I have had the bike being wonky in a straight line is when the stem was loose (old quill stem)

Why don't you learn how to ride or buy some decent forks.

Joking 😀

My Rebas didn't feel right, stiff so cornering was fine but bumpy or rocky roots etc and I was riding a horse wihtout a saddle!

My LBS didn't believe me until 8 months later when I gave them a recording of the sounds it made when I called them when riding!

They only sent them back and I got new froks from rockshox.

Check pressure, setup, as above right way round but suspect you know already and bounce them.

Take to lBS and ask them to ride or test it? send away!

Thanks for the comments, going to take it to LBS tomorrow.Only other way i can describe it is...imagine the toppling you would get if you rode a chopper, fine but slightly un-steady while straight and then almost collapses when cornering.I'm making it sound worse than it is,but only way i can describe it.

That is a long fork based bike and in no way any other item that might be described as a "chopper".Not that i have ridden either type!

Is the QR done up correctly, is the wheel moving in the drop out? I bought some superstar QR's and had a similar feel to what you are describing. It turns out the locking mechanism was shit and kept working lose even after closing it tightly! I went back to my Mavic ones and the prob was sorted.

I have a similar thing on my ss. Waiting for my new rear wheel to arrive though and will then be messing around with the fork and tyre pressures.

Too many variables. Eliminate the change in tyres/pressures by going back to your old ones. Then try again.

"slow cornering they just want to dive" That does sound like too-soft spring resulting in too much sag, e.g. more air pressure needed?
