I've spent the last couple of weeks building my little brother a bike from the classifieds.. you may have seen mention of how happy I am with the build on other threads..
This afternoon he was due to come over and we were going to bleed the brakes, fit the chain and go for a spin..
An hour before he arrived I set about fitting the rotors and adjusting the brakes.. and when it came to torquing up the rotor bolts I noticed they were tight as a gnats chuff..
The bolts looked a little long for the hope XC hubs.. (purchased here -spanking condition, smooth as butter) but I guessed that they would just go right through and stick out the other side a couple of mil.. no worries.. but very tight
must be some oxidised alloy in the hubs threads or some old threadlock perhaps.. gently does it, ease it on through.. ta daaaH!
except one bolt, that cracked the hub.. and on closer inspection there's a small crack in the front hub too..
if he rides the bike on these hubs will he die..?
They'll be fine, did the same on a Hope XC hub and the crack never worsened with use.
Not a problem.
old hope XCs eventually crack, call Hope, be honest and send them back for their "inspection" I bet you'll be very happy with their decision.
