[Closed] Half worn tyres - what to do with them?

Over the years I seem to have amassed a huge amount of half worn tyres that are knackered enough not to grip properly, but still have enough rubber on that I can't bring myself to chuck them.

Having come to the conclusion that I need yet another new rear tyre (centre knobs worn down to about 1mm high - might explain why I'm struggling for traction), yet having 5 or 6 identical, and equally useless ones sat in the cellar, I don't really want to blow another £40 just to add to the pile or mouldering rubber.

Theoretically I could keep them for "summer use", but actually I just stick semi slick tyres on instead (of which I also have a collection of almost bald ones that I can't bear to chuck out). Likewise there's all the softish compound front ones with shagged side knobs, but they're too soul destroying slow to use as rear tyres, or the non-tubeless ones that are useless now I run tubeless on all my bikes (don't get on with using non-tubeless tyres and sealant - too fragile)

Ideas...?

1mm is not half worn. They're scrap. Man up. Bin them.

You know how council tips take used car tyres? Do you think they take bike tyres too? Seems a shame to landfill them

I think you're kidding yourself they are half worn. They're nearly fully worn. Chuck 'em.

I took all my old, ahem, rubbers to the council tip - nice little area for rubber stuff.

We donate ours to a local Bikes to Africa scheme, and let them make the decision as to whether they're still acceptable or not.

ride 'em. you'll be a far better rider come summer. think of it as a FREE skills course.
they aren't worn out until there's no side knob grip.

Gumtree. I got rid of a couple of tyres this way. Either free or minimal money. Feels better than binning them.

Nice croc, old sewing machines for legs?

The ones on the Upcycle link are on another level, amazing.

I have the same issue, but wouldn't bin them. It's all relative, and what is part worn (or scrap) to you will be a jolly good tyre to someone else. I remember getting a handed down Mud Dawg with virtually no centre tread when I was about 13 and I was over the moon! If it ain't got holes in, it's still good to go. Bikes to Africa scheme is a good call.
