Hi All!,
Looking for some setup help please. I have a Whyte 909 2016 with Hope evo pro2 hub, XT M8000 derailleur and shifter + XT 11 42 cassette.
I've been trying to fix back pedaling issue so Whyte sent me a Sram Nx 1130 11 42 cassette to try.
The NX 1130 worked amazing well! Back pedaling problems gone no matter how fast pedaling back. Shifting was excellent! only draw back was the weight!
So got the Sram GX 1150 Cassette and Hope XD drive. Back pedaling ok but not like NX 1130.
Also now bad shifting problems 10t and 12t struggle to shift back up cassette.24t coming back down cassette.
Over all just not clean shifting.
Can't get the cable tension right for up and down cassette. Played around with B tension.
Feels like XT derailleur with sram Gx 1150 cassette not compatible. But be told it is and seen people on forum with this set up.
Kinda of got my heart set on using GX Cassette now.
Thanks
Dan
Not much help here but I've got the 1150 cassette on my hardtail along with XT M8000 rear mech and shifter and the shifting isn't great.
By comparison I've got a full sus bike running XTR M9000 mech and shifter with an XX1 cassette which shifts absolutely perfectly.
Not sure if it's down to the XT kit or the cassette. When I get a chance I plan on swapping the cassettes over to see if there's any improvement.
Worth checking your hanger alignment is spot on. Sometimes a little bit of misalignment can cause all sorts of weird shifting issues in some gears but not others.
Thanks for reply! It's bugging the hell out of me. Think i'm just going to have go back to 1130 cassette if cant sort it. like to know how u get on with cassette change.
Thanks GeForce Junky, Whats the best way ? Take it off lay it on flat surface?
Use a hanger alignment tool like a Park DAG 2.2 which allows you to measure the distance between the wheel rim and the tool as you rotate it to work out if it is straight. A bike shop should be able to do it for you very quickly.

May have to that, But if i put different cassette on and it shifts fine that should rule out hanger ?
SRAM chain, they're not directional like shimano now are they?
I Dont think Sram chain's do.
Take look at my vid on pink bike.

Hope that work's
Can you wind the b tension in to get top jockey closer to the cassette. It looks like it's reasonably far away.
I did have had it in more but was told that Sram need up 15mm gap
I'm running xt with sram cassette and the shifting was really poor until I put on a sram chain. Now it's fine. This has happened on 2 different bikes now.
I have my HT setup with GX and 1150 cassette and it was spot on.
I'm experimenting with a plus wheelset and to save the 15 quid extra on another 1150 cassette and 60 quid on an XD driver (wheelset was Shimano FH) I bought an XT 11-42 cassette. I'm running SRAM chains still but I'll be going back to KMC for the next bunch I think.
I remembered to put the 11sp spacer on the freehub, put the cassette on and fitted the wheelset. I made no adjustments and had flawless shifting instantly. the only thing to let me know I'd swapped cassette was being reminded what a big difference losing 1T off your top gear can make.
I'd say B screw in the above pics is probably about right - you want around 1.5 links from point chain leaves cassette to top jockey.
I'd seriously check that you don't either have chain on wrong from a N/W point of view or that the hanger isn't damaged. If you have a reliable metal straight edge (a 150mm/6" rule is fine for this) you can pop the wheel out and unbolt the mech and place the straight edge against the hanger and dropout. You should easily detect a problem is this is the cause.
Thanks for reply's guy's! I have a Sram pc xx1 hollowpin chain. Should that be ok ?
Do they have right and wrong way? Apart from the power links.
vincienup you put 11sp spacer on the xd freehub?
I'm going to put 1130 cassette back on and make sure i get good shifting. That should rule out bend hanger?
I Have changed back to the Sram 11 30 cassette.
I have my nice smooth gear changing with no problems back.
So got to be some think to do with the GX and Hope XD driver? ๐
sell yer gx and free hub and buy spare cassette would rather have sweet gear changes with a little weight penalty or buy a nx rear mech and use with gx cassette and xd free hub. You would need new shifter as well but in my experience having used both shimano and sram i feel the sram is a much better shift (in my opinion)
Did you torque the cassette up properly when fitting it? Seen a few XD cassettes sitting wide as they were not on fully.
FWIW the 1130 cassette runs the exact same spacing etc. as the 1150, so they are fully interchangeable. If you can make it work on an 1130 then no reason you cant make it work on the 1150.
Thanks Again for the reply's!
Coblck definitely sound like a good plan at moment. Just bugging me as do like the 10 42 range!
Benpinnick i didn't use an torque wrench but make sure was tight, to be honest
id say it was little over 40 Nm if anything.
When i fitted the Gx 1150 i had to completely reset up the derailleur. limit screws out compared to 1130 cassette that sound normal?
If 11-30 11-50 are same spacing make me even more confused.
Only thing put it down to is differents in Shimano freehub and Xd freehub.
you will need to adjust the low and high limit as well as the shifter tension adjustment when switching from a different freehub type.
Running the exact same set as up as you except using a Shimano road 11 speed chain. Figured if they were rebrading them road and mtb chains then the old road ones should work and were cheaper as old stock.
I did find you need a good smear of grease on the XD driver to get the cassette on properly.
Shimano 11 speed is a bit of a let down, I wish I had made the switch in a way but I do like all my bikes to have exactly the same controls so not changing all 3.
First think is check your wheel is in the drop out correctly, then check your hanger is straight (LBS or buy the cheap tool from wiggle) and failing that re-do all the indexing from scratch.
How is the shifting for you Andyl ?
