Had a tumble yesterday and landed quite hard on my thumb of all things, bending my brake lever in the process. Not being the first spill of the ride meant some rather juicy expletives escaped my mouth. Now I can't be sure if they heard me, but some walkers were sat having a quiet picnic 20 metres or so away. I should have perhaps apologised but hoped they had not heard me and rode on after the necessary bike fixes.

I still feel a bit of a tool this morning and hope I haven't put too much of a bad impression out there for us MTBers 😥
I was extra nice to all the other walkers I saw before and after 🙂

Anyone else have sporadic bouts of Tourette's when out riding?

Assuming they saw you fall then I doubt they saw it as particularly unreasonable behaviour.

I kind of hope they laughed at me and are feeling guilty after watching me limp off

Why would they feel guilty at your error?

Why would they feel guilty at your error?

Well, besides the fact you don't know it was my error 😐

1. man has comedy fall

2. onlookers laugh

3. man picks himself up and looks hurt

4. onlookers feel a bit guilty about laughing at him

What don't you get? 😆

(PS of course it was my error)

*Thinks* clearly I have still not used enough smilies to convey the tongue-in-cheek nature of my posts

Because human error is responsible for nearly all crashes...

They most probably thought one less bloody cyclist, as hes hurt himself.

But saying that, i had the chain snap once at the start of a long climb, swore quite wildly at the bike and the chain, in a Basil Fawlty way, turned round and there was a few walkers behind me, one huge bloke said thats not very nice, so i grovelingly apologised for the swearing and comedy antics, to which he siad dont worry i had a similar thing happen last wee to me, and i went balastic.

He said i meant its not nice when that happens, as opposed to the swearing.

I think it depends on if you "did that dance" thing that, say, I do when falling off hurting myself.

I sort of angrilly dance about, shaking aformentioned site of minimal injury, swearing loudly. To be honest, you can't really be offended, as whilst looking like a "funky chicken" it's hard for anyone to take you seriously, no matter how much it hurts. Particularly effective with ankle or wrist injuries.

I shall remember the dance for next time whilst trying to erase certain unmentionable words from my vocabulary 😆

Would the walkers be bothered about leaving a bad impression with the MTB crowd?

have to admire your concerns though.
