Looking to treat my Dad to a holiday next year, and take him mountain biking somewhere new, perhaps with the option of doing a day or two of road riding as well.

Ideally I'm looking for somewhere that's good between June and October (not sure about dates yet), and not in France - he's already been there so much, I think he might be bored of it.

So Italy? Austria? Bulgaria? Norway? Switzerland?

A bit further than Europe but it's an awesome ride. 2200 x $800 places sold out in 40 minutes last year.

Realman, we do mountain bike holidays in the Basque Country and also backcountry style trips in the Pyrenees. For next year we are going to offer road biking too. This year we did a couple of holidays where we did a mix of mtb and road, using a local guide for the road side of things and with hire bikes. The road bike section of the site is under development just now.

I've been with Ade and Joe too and really enjoyed that. India looks cool too with that Kerala bike. Also recently been with Ash at transprovence and that was way cool.

If you're thinking of Mexico, look into 'Copper Canyon'. That's where the best mountain biking is anyway.

I´m confident that you will not find better trails (road or mountain), scenery and weather here in the Sierra Nevada, here in Andalucia with http://www.bikingandalucia.com, and also excellent value.

MTB mecca of the world;-

Some lovely road hills in the valley to cycle up too if you're really inclined, although I'd still do them on the MTB as the trails back down are mint.

There is us in Olvera (riding in Malaga/Cadiz - Southern Spain) http://www.allmountainventure.com/

Loads of really technical mountain biking as well as the fast and flowing stuff.

The local road riding in the Grazalema National Park is excellent. A good network of winding mountain roads make for endless combinations, from CAT1 climbs to more undulating. To the south and east is the Genal Valley and Sierra de las Nieves which also have good road routes. Its away from the coast and major towns so traffic is next to none.

This map shows the central area, there are more roads around the periphery.

ACE are worth looking at to: http://www.andaluciancyclingexperience.com/index.html
I've only done their winter road training camps (3rd visit booked for March) but they do MTBing and multi-day supported ride options as well. Given they have road bike to hire you could take MTBs with you and just hire a road bike for the odd day. The roads are mostly brilliant, the white villages dotted around are good for cafe stops and the scenery is great. They're based in Montecorto (top right in the pic linked above)

Here is another for you to consider: Hike And Bike Holidays

They are based in Andalucia in Spain so they're really easy to get to.

We supplied them with a fleet of 10 29er hardtails for you to enjoy the mountains on.

They also have softails if that's more your thing and they can offer road bikes for touring on as well.

Great scenery around there:

If you decide to go to Lanzarote take a very close look at these guys:

http://mountainbike-lanzarote.com/

Just back from there. Haven't had a chance to ride with them due to stretched ankle, but they were offering guided riding when noone else was on the South Coast.

And, more importantly, they were kind enough to take care of my bike while I was sailing for 8 days, and I had not spent a penny with them. Saved me a lot of hassle.
