Popular advise seems to be that the medium cage mech is fine for 1x11.
However, when you add enough chain for suspension action, I seem to get enough chain slack in the 10 tooth cog for the chain to be slapping the frame close to the drop out.
Has anyone else found this and was a long cage mech the answer?

Yes,and yes, shorter cages don't deal with the required amount of chain growth anywhere near as well as longer ones.
