Was planning a ride round Healey Nab then over Great Hill and along the big stone slabbed path towards Winter Hill in a few weekends time.
I've done this route in an evening, but could imagine it might not be much fun with a flow of pedestrians along there and whilst I can't find it on a map (seems in line with the boudary line?), there is a bit of debate that it might be a footpath ๐
No debate about it being a footpath according to the Ranger we met whilst riding there ๐ณ and doesn't it depend on the weather if it will be busy or not.
So probably best to find another extension to the ride then....
I realize it would depend on the weather but as it some way from the hot spots at the barn and the pike, was thinking if we hit it before midday, we'd be okay.
Any other ideas, not verging on footpaths, for the 'ultimate' rivington route?
problem with rivvy is that the hotspots are where all the bridleways are. Spitlers edge is the bit that you are refering to and yes it is a footpath and a pain in the arse when its wet because of the the none slabbed section as you near the road. You could go over the nab, down to white coppice cricket ground, up through the woods and then across the moor towards the top of great hill, but when you get to the stone steps on the right drop back down towards the cricket ground and then make your way over to rivvy, go up the side of the school and up wilderswood then carry on up to the masts, down san marino, into belmont back up the road from the black dog to georges lane, across to the pigeon tower down the ice cream run, down the road to the lead mines, up anglezarke then back to the nab.
Or you could go back up san marino, down road a bit and head to the stone stack to do dog kennel run before going to ice cream run.
The path up to great hill annoys me, it does get busy.
Either way you'll have to fill in an application form to ride on MY land. tsk tsk.
Seriously, Spittlers is a foot path and we always ride it from Sheep House Lane end, finishes on Great Hill then you have the belting descent into White Coppice. OK its a footpath, but to be honest I struggle to care. Additionally though, what out for little walls built across the footpath (with stones taken from the dry stone wall!!) and also Caltrops. All put down by some nutter who objects to MTB'ers. This just makes me want to ride there even more.
