I have a few days latter next month when I earn browny points and take the mother in law for a mid week brake to Cardigan, South Wales.

Im going to chuck in the gravel bike to use when the wife and mother in law go shopping.

any suggestions for good rides starting from there would be much appreciated.

Garmin uploads would be great.

If they're shopping in Cardigan you'll only have about 20 minutes to ride your bike!

Ride wise I'd head out along the river towards Cilgerran Wildlife Park and then through Cilgerran until you reach The Old Post House Stores (about 200 metres past the Cardiff Arms pub). Turn left at the OPHS and go down a very steep hill to the river. Turn right and follow the riverside path all the way to Llechryd bridge. I'd probably then go over the bridge and take the first left and follow the back lanes until you reach a crossroads at which point either turn left and follow the main road back into Cardigan (probably about 2 miles) or go straight across, follow the road for about a mile then take a left at the church then left at the next junction. After about a mile you'll come to another junction where you'll join the main road back to Cardigan (about 3/4 mile away).

Cardigan use to be my home town so if you need any other info then just ask.

That’s a good start, many thanks.

i can always be dropped off 50 or so miles away and ride back if that widens the rides.

A couple of options then. Get a lift to Narberth (where there is decent little high street, nice cafes etc to keep wife and MIL happy - much nicer than Cardigan) then ride north west along the lanes towards Llys y Fran reservoir, onto Maenclochog, then down to the Gwaun Valley (Pontfaen) onto Cilgwyn which is above Newport. I would then follow the back lanes towards Moylgrove, then Poppit then Cardigan. This route won't be very gravelly, but great scenery, quiet lanes and quite a few tough climbs. Just try and avoid the A487 wherever possible.

There's a good bike shop in Newport who are very helpful with route planning if you fancy something else, also a good cycling club in Cardigan called Velo Teifi who will no doubt be helpful if you get in touch with them. You could also google Preseli Angel Sportive which starts in Newport and will give you decent route ideas.
