Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a gamin edge 205 and what I need to know is can I download routes from the web straight onto it?
Thanks
Ian
Anyone help ?
If it's this one the short answer is no.
The long answer:
The tricky bit is "can I download routes from the web straight onto it?"
You can download routes, convert them if needed, import then in to a mapping program (i use Tracklogs ) or possibly Gramin training center and then send them to the device but you will not the "turn by turn" navivawtion you would get on a TomTom or eTrex.
You would be better of thinking of the 205 and 305 as a very posh bike computer rather then a navigation device.
I used to use a Garmin Forerunner (until I lost it) - good for measuring distance and seeing where I'd been on the map. Once saved my bacon when I could back track a biscuit crumb trail even though there was no map.
Now I use a Satmap Active 10 - has full OS mapping (expensive tho). You can download routes, but it doesn't do turn by turn as it stores the map as a picture.
When I forget it, I use mapmyrun on my Iphone to record distance etc
Then put it all into Sporttrack.
GrahamA is right, a posh bike computer that doesn't need wires
