Evening guys,

Want to get rid of my Hope Pro II DT swiss EX 5.1d wheelset after a summer of punctures pretty much everyride 😆 Bar this they've been great, and still run true after several years.

Any thoughts on this for going tubeless, general trail riding, XC in the peaks, for my Santa Cruz Blur LT... 13 stone with all the gear on.

Yep, the price

I'm assuming here that Hope Hoops are still on the go with other peoples (ie stans) rims, iirc theyd be closer to £300 than the £400 above?

But otherwise exactly the same build as I'd go for, so long as the rear Hope Evo, is the (brand?) new 40point pickup one, not the first Evo 24point freehub

Can you not just rebuild the hope pro 2 into new rims?

Just convert your existing rims to tubeless if you're happy with them?

I don't know if they are listed as tubeless ready, but there certainly seems to be plenty of people running them tubeless if you do a quick Google...

Options are to run your current set tubeless. My lad has Ex500 rims and they run fine with stans tape and valves.

Build/ have your current hubs built onto some TLR rims, (there's a reason why ZTR rims a re so popular.)

Have a custom set of wheels built by someone who isn't going to charge you quite £400 for the privilege, such as this guy

http://www.cycle-fast.co.uk/cfb2b/8-hope-based-custom-rear-wheel.html

Buy hope hoops, but you'll probably have to stick with black hubs.

Can recommend Moonglu for Pro2 based wheels. Bought some Pro2 Evo's on crest rims which I ran for two plus years without problems on a 5 Spot. Pro2 Arch are £350 with loads of other options.

Phone the guys at Wicked Cycles. They are pretty much the cheapest out there' for Hope Hoops but with the added advantage that you can pick your hub colour.

I paid £285 for red pro 2 Evos (new 40t rear hub) on arch ex rims.

The prices have now just gone up a bit so you are looking at circa £310.

Thanks for replies guys.

@james i'll ask for the 40 point pickup when I decide, cheers, does that give even more of an epic rambler scatterer buzz? 😆

@shorty I can probably sell the current wheels to recoup some cost.

@frogstomp seen a lot of mixed reports on going tubless with a DT kit, or stand with current rims so still a bit dubious.

@scapegoat i'll check out the TLR rims thanks, never heard of them! 😀 checked out cycle fast but they didn't seem to offer any cash savings vs OP.

@DHdave thanks checked out moonglu, it seems wicked cycles have the price crown at the moment.

@campfreddie thanks, are these the chaps? looks a good deal £310

@superfi need hope hubs, can't get enough of that freewheel clicking soundtrack 8)

My Superstar switch hubs are almost on a par with my Hopes for clickery clackety freewheel noise
I love Hope stuff but why pay a £170 premium over the Superstar just for the noise
At £140 your getting wheels for about £10 more than the rims alone
You could always strip them down and rebuild onto your existing hubs
Build your existing rims onto the superstar hubs and you have a spare set of wheels for not a lot (although this is a faff just for a 'noise')

If you are looking at Hope Hoops make sure the cheaper prices still include the Stans rim strip and valve, seem some places that sell a little cheaper but don't include these

Just use a Stans rim strip - I converted mine about 5 years ago, no problems at all. In fact although I've lighter ones I'm currently using the front as I put a new tyre on as a test - and love it.

hmmmm just done a bit of research and it seems the EX are 0.2mm wider but 20grams lighter, but with a thinner wall extrusion?
