Just heard about a company, Zerode bikes. Not sure about the bikes part, they only seem to make one..

[img] [/img]

I think it's the nicest looking dh bike I've ever seen. Although that might be cause it kinda looks like a ht.

It's got an internal hub as the main pivot so it runs SS to the wheel with the gears being handle with a hub in the centre of the frame.

Works well apparently.

Mondraker Summum or whatever its called is a pretty thing.
Most things from Intense (apart from the M3, fugly).

But the best? BMW Racelink.

Ew no, can't stand BMWs. And my mates got a summum, they're pretty forgettable.

There was only one bike that I found visually appealing at Fort Bill DH this year; the Canfield Formula 1 Jedi:

Must admit that Trek have it pretty nailed in the looks, too.

THat 29er DH bike Intense brought out (was that the 951?). The big wheels made it look extra long and low and just really really really fast. Lovely.

The TR450 is very nice too, but I hate the v10. It goes from curves to corners everywhere, and isn't helped with a halfords apollo-esque paint job.

The 224 could be nice, I'm yet to see one with a decent colour scheme going on though.

And what about this?

I've a soft spot for old DHRs as well, something very cool about that big square frame...

As if they finished it then went "doh! We didn't leave enough space for the engine!"

That Lahar was a funny looking thing really. It looked like it was designed by Kurt Geiger.

I met a chap riding one at Cwmcarn a few years back and apparently he was good friends with the company owner. It wasn't all that light and it did look a bit 'home made' but it was fascinating and in the flesh it really worked aesthetically.

hmm - thought this thread was going to be discussing Zerode bikes, not just any good looking DH bikes!

I think the Zerode looks really interesting. Massively high pivot, enabled by a high mounted gearbox. Very very interesting. I'd love to have a go!
In fact a single-speeded one would be pretty interesting too.

apart from a couple of bikes I would say this thread has turned into the ugliest DH bikes, and having re-looked, 'couple' being generous.

IIRC he didn't use it for the best part of a year - so cleaned it up, got the Rohloff hub sent to Germany for a service, made the carbon shock guard, etc. Nice to see such a rare bike in good nick, and being used properly.

Lahar and Zerode are great examples of Kiwi blokes tinkering in their sheds doing things a little differently. Shame such ventures never really enjoy the success they deserve.

Reminds me of the NZ-made Britten motorbike of the 90's:

Neither too shabby looking.

I'm agreeing with whoever it was who said this thread has turned into a collection of ugly dh bikes (and a ht and a motorbike?).

My votes go to

zeroed
transition tr450
iron horse sunday

In that order. All other bikes ITT are mingers IMO.

It's asking a lot, but if you had to narrow which ones you liked to three (that have been mentioned ITT), which ones would they be?

Definitely:
1. Santa Cruz

2. Intense Uzzi
3. would be the Trek Session 88 for me.

My favourites are the Transition TR450, although I actually prefer the 250, Intense Socom, Evil Revolt and the Trek Session 88. The new Turner DHR looks good too.

Being as short arse I like DH bikes that sit nice and low.

Always been quite partial to the functional lines of the Last Herb DH:

And I've always been a sucker for the Lawwill rear setup:

Such a shame that the Balfa BB7 always had a soft spot around it's linkage plates 😥

It was sold to and launched by another company IIRC?

Loving this thread. Some real horrors though! Interesting to see such a variety of opinion with no name calling too. If this was "nice looking rigid ti forks" there would have been class war, 2 flounces and a ban by now.

Anyway, my top 3:

1) Summum
2) 951
3) Morewood Makulu

Wait a minute, are you implying that xc jey boy mincers are more argumentative then dhers...?

😉

I've enjoyed this too, although I can't believe how hard I've fallen for the zerode. I think I may end up with one one day..

RealMan, I would never imply such a thing! Ahem...

The zerode does look gorgeous but the weight put me off a fair bit, seems pretty heavy for a modern dh bike. The fuel tank is a bit Halfords too. Hope they get enough support to develop it further though, innovative concept. The carbon all mountain version they have looks great...
