I seriously regret selling my Dew Drop Deluxe (a deluxe and a drop smashed together) it was gravel before gravel was  a thing.

But for the shops... Raleigh 20. Rapid. Funny. Tough as old boots and worth zero. Its had girls, beer crates, welders, a lit barbeque, all sorts on it.

Mu first one was a folder, it was stolen from a stairwell..

Have you looked at Stridsland for some inspiration?

I got an old Soul for peanuts, dredged ebay and FB classifieds for nice but cheap 26er parts, and stuck a set of wheelie bike 2.5 slicks on it. I think I'm into it for about £500, just because I got carried away on the wheels and got it a dropper post. I had a Soul bitd as my #1 bike, it's kind of weird that I know have one as my going to the shops bike and it has the exact same wheels and fork in it. But it is ace.

(I got it a second set of wheels and some knobbly tyres, with the idea that I might do some retro mountain biking on it. But after one attempt I decided bollocks to that, time has not been kind, it doesn't feel fun-bad like my fatbike, it feels like it's supposed to be good but isn't. But it's still ace jumping it down the steps at tesco)

I've got a Bridge Club for everything you're describing.  It's not magical by any stretch, but it is a really nice ride.  Perfect pub bike, and a bit more.

Genesis Longitude or Pashley Mailstar (or an elephant bike)

I have both, love them equally. Longitude a proper alrounder, the mailstar a utilty / cargo bike.

Spa Cycles Rove . I’m thinking of building one up for much the same purpose. Frameset or complete bikes available

I've got an old (pre-456) Inbred built up with Surly rigid forks and 1.5 inch slick tyres (as they were what I had). Bombproof, fun to ride and, possibly, my favourite bike.

It’s not steel, fast or green but I picked up a Cannondale Treadwell last year when everyone was punting them out (new) half price for some reason! I got the “deluxe” version with front & rear racks, dynamo hub & integrated lights. It even has a kickstand 😀 Love it, easily my most (frequently) ridden bike now.

This is the colour I was thinking of, far from BRG
