I've got a set of Hope tech enduro 27.5 wheels, and I would like to swap out the original 23mm width rims with something around 30mm.
I've been looking at the Fortus rims, but they dont seem to be as robust as I would like.
Are DT Swiss EX-511's still the preferred upgrade option or is there something better I'm missing.
I need 32 spoke, 27.5 and around 30mm internal width.
And preferably not cost a fortune, but I am happy to spend on something quality.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
DT Swiss of the right width, or Stan's Flows.
Used by a lot of riders, and for good reason.
DT EX511 if you're an utter animal, DT XM481 if you're a little more concerned about weight, a little less concerned about surviving armageddon
Quite a fan of Spank rims, has some for a while and seem to be pretty robust.
Halo vapour 35 works for me.
EX511s here. I can confirm the cockroaches will be trundling down the post-apocalypse streets in tanks shod with them.
XM481 here. They survived my usual DH style and Alpine holiday riding no bother.
I liked the idea of losing a little weight from the rims knowing that if I blew them up I'd be switching to EX471 but they're fine so far.
Thanks for the options,
I think i'm going to have to go the apocalyptic route, as they will be going on a Hardtail, in the Lakes (Yes i know, I'm going to die horribly)
Off I go to google the hell out of your suggestions, to see if any are in stock at a sensible price.
A few weeks ago you could have got some spank spike race 33 for £36 at CRC, they've been in and out of stock a few times so keep an eye on them with fingers crossed if you're not in a rush.
Or DT swiss ex511, fr560 were £60 a few weeks ago, bad timing.
471/511 are downhill rims, or if you are a serial wheel killer
421/4801 are the trail rims, or dont kill wheels
FR560 are very heavy
Hope rims are made of cheese and heavy.
I replaced my Hope Enduro rims with DT XM481 rims, I used the existing spokes.
XM481 if your not a complete hulk/terminal bike wrecker. They are still bloody strong.
