So - I have to go to Peebles on Saturday with my wife. We thought we'd take the bikes and to GT whilst there. But the GT 7 is on. Is it even worth trying to go biking?
Website says 2 trails closed (Buzzards Nest Trail and the Glen Trail) but looking at the map I have no idea which actual trails these are (e.g. is buzzards next trail the nice one that clims up to the Buzzards next car park, or is it the one that descends, or is it something else?).
So, could we go there and ride most of the red? Or a mix of the blue and red?
Answers on a postcard...
STS.
How about riding Innerleithen or Gypsy Glen??
Aren't the closures just on weekdays for the new Go Ape construction?
I "discovered" Inners red a couple of weeks ago - ****ing loved it! Was unsure whether to bother cos others had said it wasn't much good, but had to find out for myself. Found it to be a bit more like "mountain biking" than GT.
You might also love it.
Or not.
P.S.
I also loved riding GT, but I love riding anywhere ๐
Is it even worth trying to go biking?
If you could cycle round in front of me ,stopping every few yards, that would be great.
I can then use you and your wife as an excuse for my lap score.
Thanks in advance.

Just curious, had these people ever ridden a mountain bike? ๐
Last time it didn't use a huge amount of trail from the regular stuff that you'd ride. WE rode up to Buzzards nest on the out bound singletrack but then turned left and came back down past the skills loop bit on the green, we might have used some of the blue but it wasn't open at the time anyway. I imagine you will be ok but might be forced up the fireroad until you get higher up than buzzards nest although we were sharing the trail last year there are more about. It will probably only take up one trail in most places so you could always use some of the others with a bit of creative route finding.
Parking might be a bit of a nightmare and the facilites might be full.
You will however get the added advantage of chearing on the 4 MidAirCrisis entrants doing it solo. Me, Chris, Alun and Amelia.

They were defnly lazy ****ers who smoked a lot of herb
They didn't think it had any flow (ala GT blue) - I could have given them my tirade about how flow comes from within and what you find on the trail is only what you bring to it, but I though it would have been wasted - much like them ๐
Apparently their feet kept getting knocked off the pedals cos they were on hardtails with flat pedals. I was to be ok though cos I had the right bike for it.
That's right, I was on a hardtail. With flat pedals.
Spoilt by trail centres these kids!
I reckon GT will be chaos at the weekend and there's other events going on within the Tweed Valley area. Parking will be difficult at GT. Check the website for the events diary/guide.
Depending on abilities (as it's a big ride), a few weeks back, a handful of us did Minchmoor loop. It starts & finishes in the Innerleithen FC car park. Click here for a ride report http://www.gmbc.org.uk/minchmoor-loop-ride-report/
Whatever you do, have a great w/end ๐
Yeah - I know all the riding in that area pretty well and had thought about inners as an option. However, it might be a bit too technical for a wife whos not too confident on an mtb. I only really remember the black at Inners though, so maybe red at inners would work. She can do the red at GT no probs which is why I wondered how we might do a loop there where some bits might be closed.
Jon - will certainly cheer you on if we see you! Will be wearing my MidAir jersey in support. Might get out on Thursday night for a change too.
The GT website is a bit useless on info for the closures - it says what trails are closed, but when you look at the map, those named trails aren't marked. Of course, I am looking at a slightly older map because I do not want to have to 'sign up to be a friend of Glentress' in order to see a trail map - that irritated me.
Aha - the Glentress website has been updated this afternoon with better/more precise closure info so now I can tell where we can ride. And notes that diversion will be in place. So all good. May park in Peebles and ride out though as I guess it'll be busy.
Thanks all...
There's only one xc loop at Innerleithen which has some black/red options, so you could do the black options, as you know the riding in the area pretty well and your wife could do the red options.
Sorted!
youngrob - liking your thinking! We may try it. Basically, are the red options actually red in comparison to GT? I cant remember as havent been to inners for about 4 years.
The red at Inners is slightly harder climbing. Some of the downs are very slightly more taxing but it would be good to get her to look at different stuff. If you don't say anything then she won't worry and may just do it all.
The rock step ups at the beginning are a bit of fail for me but if she struggles with that you can reassure her that there aren't any more.
Just keep an eye on her - there's chicken runs for most techy stuff and walking if she's not sure. Sometimes it's good to just go and look at stuff - it's a good way to progress. Have fun! ๐
Innerleithen is fantastic once you do the initial climb which is pretty gruelling. I'd definitely do that if I was in Peebles
Yep - I must say I loved Inners last time I rode there. I am most worried about technical stuff for my wife - she wont mind walking bits on the climbs, but hates not being able to do stuff on the downs! But we might try it anyway... what have I got to loose?
My GF was more than a little worried about the downhill techy bits but by the end of the run she was flying past me screaming like a banshee!
Innerleithen seems to have awakened the krakken in her...
And even I had to walk some of the climb...
i'll be there sunday, taking my daughter for her first trail center ride ๐
im really looking forward to it.
