Giving cyclists a bad name

I try not to ride on the road any more, I've been hit on a roundabout (very slowly and no injuries/damage other than a puncture) and had far too many near misses to consider it safe. The last time I was on the main road for any length of time I was close to being knocked off by vans/lorries three times, and one van driver looked like he wanted a fight on the roadside because I put my arm in the air after he overtook very close on a blind bend.

On the occasions I do ride on the road, I make sure I control the traffic and leave drivers under no illusions as to my intent and when I deem it safe for them to overtake me. There are more cars on the roads these days, and people are worse these days, not a great combination...

To the OP - I'd take a break from cycle commuting for a while if at all possible, recharge your batteries and hopefully avoid getting decked, or yourself a criminal record.

"you don’t know how much psycho the driver is."
Absolutely this.
The driver could be a regular person who has made an error of judgement, or they could be the type who carries an axe on the passenger seat.
Or, they could be in the midst of a mental health issue, or have just found out that their long term partner is cheating on them.
And you can’t know that in advance.

Keep yourself safe, the vast majority of people are absolutely fine, but not all.

Even by Canadian standards that's mental!!

Yep, they operate a no fault system, so unless there is very clear video evidence, everyone is liable.

yep, more traffic, more impatient driving, bigger more hermetically-sealed monster vehicles, and chuck in some stupid 'culture wars' hyperfixation with 'cyclists', and too many clowns on drugs behind the wheel, it's no wonder it's as bad as it is on the roads these days...

I ride with a camera mainly as it gives my anger and outlet being able to report to police and it also means I try not to record myself being a ****...doesn't always work though I still sometimes react but less often.

I ride with a camera...

Ooof, yeah, I've considered it, but I struggle enough to remember to charge my lights 🙄

Any recommendations?

I use a chill tech bullet cam. It's basic but does the job
