Hi All wanting some advice on buying a new bike.
Cannondale RZ120 XLR2 £2899.99 Purchase will take place in March 2012
This is the only full sus bike that I have found that I like that I can just go to my LBS and buy.
As the title says.
Also good reasons to buy this bike and if there are other bikes that you stw readers have in mined.
Any bike that you mention you must be able to buy from a LBS and it must have white front forks.
Thanks for you time
Les
Any bike that you mention you must be able to buy from a LBS and it must have white front forks.
I'm not sure I can help.
None of the bike shops I know sell bikes with White forks as they aren't as strong as black ones.
(or as fast as red ones)

You need a better LBS.
RZ120 is a great bike though but I can't believe that it's the ONLY bike you can just go and buy. If you're not planning to purchase till March, surely the world's your lobster!
Oh and
and it must have white front forks.
Oddest criteria ever.
why must it have white forks?
Please don't say 'front forks' as it offends my sensibilities 😐
Has anyone got 'back forks' or is the correct nomenclature 'rear shockers'?
Pretty sure you'll have a Halfords local to you so... it even has white forks!
Bregante
I don't like black forks and this is why I am asking for advice as this is the only bike that I like ATM
Weren't Doug Bradury Manitou frames seat stays just Manitou forks on the back?
Personally I'd prefer a 2011 Anthem X2 (which has white forks, I agree I think white forks are lighter and faster!) similar spec although Shimano rather than SRAM which is better IMO.
I'm not a fan of lefties either, just from a carrying around in the boot perspective.
All for £1,600 bargain, and get this you can buy online or walk in to the shop!! 🙂
so you're going to buy a 3 grand bike based on its colour?
Priceless
A+ For Mr Howard (edit) and Zippy.

...lol
what are your feelings on Grey forks?
I had a pair of Rockshox Judy DH. those were red. Are red forks OK?
This is the only full sus bike that I have found that I like that
Some more info on why and what you like about this bike might help people suggest alternatives.
Can you take some tippex to a pair of black forks?
Love that Manitou up there ^^ btw.

Priceless
No not just on the colour
I have had a test ride and I liked it but I also like the colour and think that it is the best looking bike IMO.
So there is nothing negative about the Cannondale RZ120 then ?
Giant Anthem X29er? Less cash, bandwagonesque, white forks (from memory) and fewer odd 'industry standard' but not parts.
I had a Rush (forerunner to the RZ I think) which was OK, but it cracked, the headset was made of cheese, the steerer was a daft size and the hubs were Deore. Not quite what I'd anticipated for a £3.5k bike. The white forks also didn't have the FIT and felt distinctly wooden compared to other Fox forks of my experience.
For £2.9k I'd want a heck of a lot more reasons for and against splashing out than the colour of the forks. Remember that you can buy a set of Revelations for it in spanky white for less than four hundred sniffs so if it matters that much you could sell OEM black forks unused on ebay to recoup some of your losses.
Magura do custom colours too if you ask them nicely.
Remember, nothing depreciates faster than a second hand mountain bike so you stand to lose out big time if you buy a pup on the strength of it's aesthetics.
If you've had a test ride and like it then buy it mate.
EDIT: although by only going through one bike shop you are missing out on a lot of bikes. For example check out hat you can get from Canyon for the same money...

"So there is nothing negative about the Cannondale RZ120 then ?"
Didnt you read my post 🙄
FunkyDunc carrying around in a boot is not negative to me as I don't have a car.
Why would you want to buy that!! Plenty of other bikes out there for that price without lefty forks too.
I tried a lower spec RZ120 last year and really liked it tbh. Felt more like a 140 travel bike. The model's a few years old now and wouldn't be surprised if it is updated next year. Not that you should let that stop you though. I'm not familiar with the spec on that model but does it compare well to equivalent manufacturers models (I was looking at a ghost amr at a similar price point which knocked spots off the Cannondale equipment wise)
Thanks FunkyDunc Now I shall put that bike on my list
What's your main priority with this bike exactly, looking at it or riding it?
I'm only asking cos I've got a Norange 5. 😉
A white one.
Bregante thanks for your input and I keep looking at the Ghost amr models and there spec. Have you ridden one buy the way ?
Can I say that I bought white forks cut up an old inner tube, I now have matt black fork protectors.
Hope that hasn't ruined the OPs day.
why are you asking?
there's not really anything wrong with practically any bike: they are compromises in travel, weight, angles, usage, and you need to get what suits what you ride, what you aspire to ride, what you like to look at, how it makes you feel, and how much you can afford.
If you mean - will it break first time I use it - then probably not. If you mean, is it the best bike for me, then it's all down to the info you give us.
from the info you have given us - you want to walk to your lbs and buy it, don't have a car, and want something with white forks which looks nice, and it ticks all these boxes, then yes, it's the best we could recommend. But it may, just may, not be the best for the riding you want. But if that's second to aesthetics, which is entirely your choice, then it's fine.
Is it the bike we'd buy? For all those with Cannondale RZ120 XLR2's, yes it is. For those without, no it isn't. And no-one's right or wrong.
MBR tested one about a yr ago and the Ghost won the test

esselgruntfuttock I was wondering how long it would take be for someone got a Orange 5 in here and yes I do like the Orange 5 but something inside me says no
£3k bike, another £60 and you could have the forks any colour you like. If you like the colour your local powder coater is doing on the day probably cheaper again.
see mbr review above ^
Hey guys give them a break! Everyone knows that white components make you go faster ffs.
xcentric thanks for your words. The bike will be ridden and ridden a lot some 50+ miles off road days ahead.
As for the colour I just dont like the looks of black forks not for speed or anything else I just think black forks look awful I just don't like the colour black on forks.

so you're undecided on black forks then?
check my link above for canyon! spec wise its head and shoulders above the Cannondale
warton thanks for the link and I do like the look of that bike and I have heard good thing about canyon. But I would like to buy from a LBS and there mail order only ?
Iainc thanks for the link I have looked at the Ghost and last years model is not available in my size.
Dave Yates will paint forks for £60.

Sorted.
lesa, they are mail order only I'm afraid (helps keep the cost down) I bought a road bike, as have a few of my friends, and we are all delighted with them, I would honestly reccomend them to anyone. But if you want to give your cash to an LBS, fair enough!
I would consider this very carefully. Forks don't last for ever, even with regular servicing. Fork manufactures also change the colour every year. You could potentially be left with this bike and no white fork option in the future. The bike would become useless.
As if this isn't a troll.
Taking things at face value (yeah, right :)), good reasons to buy this bike are that the fork is not only white, it is uniquely superb. The frame is reputed to also be very good - a lot of praise on here for the RZ, so if it felt like a good fit in the LBS you'd have a great bike. Cannondale always offered a lifetime warranty on MTB frames but I am not sure if that is still the case. If it is, then you've got a high end MTB frame for life.
If those reasons don't really resonate with you then it's not a good choice. It would be too much money to pay if you're not that arsed about riding the lefty (even if it is white) / don't think the frame is anything special / and it's not backed up with a great warranty.
Thanks Garry Lager for your input on the good reasons to buy this bike.
