I’m interested in a helmet with greater coverage, and for winter riding would be very happy with something warmer. Has anyone had experience of both Tyrant and Switchblade lids, and could offer some comparative feedback on what they liked/disliked of either?

I’ve recently got a Tyrant. I’ve always got on with Giro helmets so the size and fit is very familiar and comfortable. For the amount of coverage it’s not as hot as I was expecting though noticeably warmer than my previous lid. Reckon it’ll be fine for winter.

The cheek pads rest on my cheekbones which was a bit odd to start but soon forgot about them and you can swap the pads out for a bigger or smaller size for a good fit. All in I like it a lot. Only minor gripe is there is no central vent on top so for my Exposure light it’ll be off centre.

Thanks @tuboflard - how do you find the sizing? I'm at 55cm which is max for small and min for medium - would you recommend sizing up/down?

I’m at the other end, 59cm which is the lower end of a large but it fits fine without the need to put pads in (though I did put the larger cheek pads in). So on that basis I guess you could size up, I’d rather have a helmet “slightly” loose than one at its maximum size and too tight which would just be horrible to ride in for any length of time and probably just give me a headache.

Make sure you've got a Giro shaped head before you buy. I have a Switchblade and it's a warm, comfortable helmet and great in winter but it doesn't work with the chin guard in place. The weight of it just causes it to constantly creep forwards. When I was wearing it with googles it would push them down into my eyes. So for me it's pretty useless as a full face. I took it to Morzine but it was so annoying I ended up buying a D3.
