Whats the best way of getting rid of the residue left behind when removing helicopter tape?

Ive tried WD40 and it does work but takes a lot of effort to rub off still and ive got 3 bikes to do. is there a better idea?

Proper solvent, lighter fluid, 'sticky stuff remover', etc.

Brilliant stuff. Only thing I consistently buy from Halfords. Great for other stubborn household stains as well ๐Ÿ˜€

+1 for lighter fluid.

Go slow and easy with kitchen paper, changing the paper once it gets gunked up. Takes a few goes to get it all off.

Tyre lever.

After much experimenting I found this was the best instrument for the job in terms of removing gunk without marking the frame.

Used degreaser as well but not sure this did very much.

Basically lots and lots of elbow grease required - its orrible stuff!

Finish line multi degreaser worked well after taking stickers off some rims, just left it to soak for a few mins then pretty much wiped off with a sponge

Autoglym tar remover. Takes a bit of time to get it off, but its the best i've used so far. And it smells quite nice.
Use a clean rag and change it often, as the adhesive clogs the rag. Then a final clean with IPA.

I find neat washing up liguid works. Solvents such as whitespirit will work bu then you risk taking the gloss off the paint.

Automotive brake cleaner gets rid of most stuff like that. Wear gloves when using it though.

Seeing as i already have a tin of the halfords degreaser spray here ill be giving that a go next. if that fail then lighter fluid is next on the list.

the halfords stuff losens it up a treat but as soon as i start rubbing it off it dries again, looked promising at first though.

Try Zoff. Used to work back in the day, so no reason why it shouldn't now!

I have just used some EvoStick Adhesive cleaner to get some nasty tacky stuff off a floor where it had been used to stick down some lino:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=evo+stick+adhesive+remover&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=25738189136&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=27130375807783587&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_2n2tscceqw_b

and to get a bit of gunk out of a woollen carpet.

Homebase stock it as well.

Plastic tyre level, wd40 or gt85, coarse rag, rub, scrape, rub scrape etc, it's boring but does work if you persevere.

Can't believe nobody said "Dunk in a beaker"..........
