[Closed] Getting back into road riding, how long until saddle stops breaking me in half?

As above, just got back into riding road after 18 months off. New bike and saddle... Did a quick 20 miler yesterday, went to go for a ride this morning and had to turn back after a mile as I couldn't stay on the seat. How long does it take to get 're-accustomed to hours in the saddle?

I don't think it's necessarily a saddle issue. Just take a couple of days off, ride again, repeat. Shouldn't take more than a few days.

As above, it's not nessesarily a saddle issue if you are not used to riding, give it some time

Thanks guys, yes to padded shorts Terry, it's a bontrager one that came as stock (trek emonda sl). It looks about the same width as ones I've had in the past. It's not chafing, it's more making me feel bruised.

If I've been off the bike for a couple of months I normally find it takes a couple of weeks of 2-3 rides a week (of a couple of hours) before the bruised feeling improves, can be a few more rides after that before I get back to usual level of only mild saddle discomfort. If it goes on much after that I'd be looking at swapping the saddle.

Saddle position and shape are much more important in road riding because you'll be seated for long periods of time.

Firstly, are you wearing padded shorts, next to the skin?

Next check the height and then the angle of the saddle, there's plenty on the web about this but my preference is for a couple of degrees up at the nose. Next the position on the rails.

If all that fails buy a Charge Spoon saddle.

The saddle's important right now 'cos you're sitting on it a lot

As your strength and fitness improves you'll find your leg power naturally raises you off the seat and you can use pretty much any saddle

1 month into the saddle that came on my emonda sl5 and mass ass still hurts. I think I need another saddle. I have a specialised avatar that is better which was measured against my Arse which I will put on when the newness of the emonda wears off and if the saddle doesn't get better.

I've come to the conclusion that anything the size of a saddle is gonna hurt if you sit on it for hours on end.

Same bike as me.I think, 2015 green one? Maybe I should ditch the saddle asap then.

Yeah same bike.. up to you mate.. I'm gonna give mine another chance I think. I did 57 miles on it last week and it felt OK.. This weekend it hurt after 40 miles. If I'm sitting down peddling hard it hurts but I can be out longer with a few breaks and standing climbs it's not an issue!

For me. I'll see how it goes. I've never felt comfy on a saddle.

Chilled.. How's that saddle? I'm thinking of putting my one back on for a second try.

What saddle do you run on your mountain bikes , and how long do you ride on the mtb for?

Could just be saddle soreness, could be the saddle. I had a correctly sized specialised body geometry saddle on my road bike that i found unridable. I run the same Selle Italia on road and off road now (different variants - TT saddle on the mtb's, lightweight version on the road - but same shape and width)

Charge Knife or Spoon. That's all.

I have a charge/fabric scoop on road and MTB, no issues. I also find standing up on the roadie regularly stops things going numb

Just look at that saddle, it'll be like sitting on a razor blade!
