Pondering a change from my Mk3 Soul to this. Will I regret it ? Looks a sorted setup and ideal for local muddy stuff, longer days and general fun. I do have an Anthem SX for FS days and trail centres 🙂

Not sure about benefits in mud. Definitely fun on lumpier/rockier stuff.

muddy stuff

Err big tyres don't fare well in mud. My Stache (29+) is nightmare in it. Gnarlier tyres might help, but it's never gonna be ideal

I like the look of these, but it's pretty expensive and it weighs 14.25kg without pedals. I think that's just shy of a metric ****-ton.

If I had a cotic soul, I wouldn't part with it for a tarn...

Got a Tarn and love it, but +tyres are hopeless in Mugdock slurry as it is now Iain - using other bikes with 2.2-2.4 29er mud tyres at the moment and anxiously awaiting a big freeze....

Fair point, will put on the N+1 list for 2016 rather than a replacement !

Why not a Solaris frame and forks and swap stuff across?
29er for mud, B+ for other stuff.

You could do the same with the Tarn, but with more clearance for proper + tyres.

Looks nice, good sizing and 11sp XT is nice.

Brakes very questionable, could do with a better dropper.

Then I saw the price. Ridiculous. Thought Genesis were getting more realistic about what they can charge, but it seems not.

I hear you, but the rims and tyres alone are worth £420 at RRP. Similar price to comparably specced Spesh models, and cheaper than a UK brand of 29er that is also sold as a 650+, but which won't take proper + sized tyres....

"Brakes very questionable"

Whys that then? Thought shimano hydro disc were generally no fuss and super relaible and efficient.

Is it overpriced? Similar kit on a specialized hard tail is a few hundred quid more. I thought it looked like a decent deal - and boost axles / 27.5+ and 29 give an element of what's hot without it looking idiotic...but maybe I'm missing something.

We've got some Tarns on Pre-order. We would be happy to do 15% off tarns for Pre-orders before 4th Jan.

email - andy@wearebikehaus.co.uk

local bike shop based in Gatley.

That looks ace and will look even better with a pair of 3 inch Nobby Nic's on it. I am running them on my Turner with 35 mm Halo Vapour wheels (which are seriously impressive) and they are what the hipsters call the shizzle!

Of course, you could just go the whole hog and buy a fat bike.........you know it makes sense given the stuff you know I ride on mine more than happily! 😀

You know that as soon as you post here, you have already been bitten by the purchasing bug! Scratch the itch, Iain!

OK on closer inspection they appear to be non-series Deore kinda level - whereas I thought they were more like the previous gen version. I had those (on a similarly priced Saracen funny enough) and they were totally unsuited for real MTBing.

I still think it's considerably more expensive than the sum of its parts though, personally.

You could build yourself a lovely Krampus for that price, easy, and have a far nicer looking bike at the end of it.

And you'd get your Dales club discount on the frame. Win win.

Edit - although having 2 new bikes in 2015, plus new bikes for the boys in last week, my jar is properly empty 🙁

Had a wee sit on that one in Sprockets too Iain (actually rode it round the shop, but keep that quiet!) Even at 6'2", the bike felt a really nice fit on me. Really nice frame, geometry looks good too and I could get one on C2W (we're not limited to a grand).

But.

I reckon I'd end up spending a fortune on it, pretty cheap drivetrain and finishing kit, although to be fair, it has decent rims....

Or.

My other, and preferred, option is to go B+ on the spectral. That is going to be the nuts I reckon!. 😆

nobeer - yeah, I like the idea of it 🙂 I reckon the 20 is a better package than the 10, as very few compromise components on it. With a bit of LBS discount it would be a good deal too.

I can't justify that plus the Soul though......yet...

(and my Anthem is only a year old and a great plaything, so it's staying...)

B+ Spectral will be a sight 🙂
