Got a Jones loop on mine, very comfortable, helps it feel a little less long in the top tube.

Bought the bike fully built, still using the stem that came on it, which I think is 80mm.

Just got my frameset yesterday, being built up from parts bin over next few days. Went for 17" frame after reading useful comments on here re sizing. Only part I don't have yet is some 29er tyres so may have to test ride on cx tyres....should at least have plenty mud clearance!

Carradice SQR Tour or slim not 100%.
Had it a couple of years now and it's been great.

My plan was, may still be, to run a Rohloff but struggling to work out where to anchor the torque arm is a place that would allow rear wheel removal in a sensible time!

If anyone's considering a Chronicle, this might be of some help.

Basic but reliable build for my bike packing ride. Will use my apidura pack on the seat post as required:

Cupra - how is the chain clearance in the lowest gear?

Are the alt bars any good? Or should I consider something else, and if so what?

I built mine today with the Alt bars and just couldn't get on with them. They make sense for your hand position but it just feels strange. Going to try normal flat bars and bar ends I think. Anyone recommend any 720mm flat bars?

On one ancho flats, currently £9.99 & 760mm

Measured the clearance for lowest gear. 2mm at the most. Is that enough, or am I going to chew up the tyre with the chain.

Bike remains untested due to illness.

🙁

I never used the alt bars as I have the Jones. With regard to clearance I get slight tyre rub in the lowest 26x36 gear but it clears fine as soon as I change up one gear.

Ironically having looked at my work schedule for the coming year and with a house sale and house purchase coming up I fear it may languish in the garage 🙁

Cheers for that rocketdog, i'll check them out. First ride today and only third ride on a 29er. Wasn't convinced the first couple times due to them being v steep angle carbon niner singlespeeds but this is so far removed from that. Not running big wide rims or fat tyres but so far it really trucks over stuff and I'm really impressed.

I'm 5'10 and the 17.5" is perfect.

The Alt bars that came with the frame though.... they will be for sale.

Cupra - Similar, if not a little worse than mine then.

I'm contemplating a set of Surly OD cranks- they should give an extra 5mm of clearance.

I like the alt bars- but I've been an alt bar convert for years. They need a little time to click, but they really work for me- the hand placement postion seems more natural, and I get less problems with my hands...

I changed the alt bars for flatties when I built it, but I have changed back as I found it a little too long with a standard bar. Gotta say I love them now, so much so I think I might get a similar bar for my Sync. Can't stop looking at the Jones Ti ones, but ouch! They're a lot of dosh....

Hummerlicious, what's the backsweep like on the Genesis Alt Bars? I've been considering these On-One bars which have a 25 degree backsweep...

Paceman- from the Genesis site:

With an unconventional 20° backsweep, our new Alt bars might (ok, do) look a little weird and take a few rides to get used to but once you do you’ll appreciate the better handling and supreme comfort, especially over long distances they offer by allowing the wrists and shoulders to be positioned at a more neutral/natural angle (put your arms in front of you and notice the position to which the wrists naturally fall). With enough forward wiggle to not need any stem compensation and a trail-friendly 720mm width or trim-able if you so wish.

[s]Paceman- what bars are those? I can't find em on the on-one site.[/s]

Scratch that, I found them- OG Bars. Carbon too. Very shiny.

Must resist. Jones bars to fit.

tootallpaul - I've got ~2mm clearance on my standard one with the knards and the middle ring - I've dialled out the smallest ring. Seems fine so far, and from what I can find in blog posts about fat bikes it seems to be normal.

So I've had it a couple of months now, mostly set up like this for commuting/light touring. Took it round Cannock (dog and monkey) in its stock set-up, soon found the limit of my skills on it 😳 but someone with actual bike handling skills would have no trouble on it.
The Jones bars are awesome, makes it feel a bit less long in the TT.
Will probably go 3" and 1x10 later in the summer, once I've scratched the touring itch...

#EDIT# Yes, my garden is a bomb-site...

Considering one of these on C2W.

Currently have a Trek Stache with 620mm ETT and 427mm Reach. Find this a nice size with a short 55mm stem.

Looking at the Genesis geometry charts, the 17.5 is the closest match and would be just right IF the measurements are correct (i'd be running standard bars)

However, from some of the previous posts it seems that the 19 actually has an ETT of 610mm and the 17.5 is much smaller.

Does anyone have an actual 17.5 ETT measurement?

Hey all

I'm getting new frame and can't decide between the classic "XC" 29er like inbred or karate monkey and 29+ compatible frame - like the longitude. Anyone here can compare the two? I'll only run full rigid and intended use is mostly slowish tech-y riding and occasional bigger (loaded) trip.. I really like the geo of the longitude except that super long chainstays.. Does it feel slow compared to the standard 29er?

thanks!

Stooge sounds perfect for the riding you describe.

also been pondering one of these, for very similar type stuff, however the imminent introduction of the rigid 27.5+ Genesis has got me rethinking, as the geometry seems a lot better for me (short legs, longish torso, 5ft 10)

A Karate Monkey will run 29+ front and a pretty big rear tyre. Also check out the Surly Krampus and the Stooge.

Conti x-king 2.4 on Pacenti DL31 rims fit in the back of my KM with loads of clearance. That's with the Monkey nuts fitted.

I've ridden my longitude down some pretty technical terrain, 19" 35mm stem, straight bars. I'm 5'11". I wouldn't worry about the length of the chain stays, lovely bike handles well stable but can really be thrown around in the bends and berms too. Haven't run it SS yet, but will do in the future. If you can have a shot on one, if you're up near Edinburgh you can try mine.

Am I correct in thinking that the Longitude frame is virtually incompatible with suspension forks ? Is there a workaround ?
Really like the bike but would probably like the ability to switch to suspension forks for some rides. Would I be better opting for a High Latitude frame instead and sticking a rigid fork on it?

Hold steady ...aye, the measurement of the fork is 445mm. A suspension fork would jack the front end up loads. Also note the straight down tube, unlike most 29er with the kink in it to give clearance for the front wheel. I guess the Latitude would be better if you can find a rigid fork to take up the measurement of the equivalent suspension fork on that frame.

Waiting for a new 19" to arrive on Monday! Found it at ukbikesdepot.com, nobody else seems to have any left in stock. Unfortunately it isn't technically mine and it's a bit big but I'll be quietly borrowing it when he's not looking.

Any tips for initial set-up?

Frood - running 180 front and rear on mine...

Still loving the Longitude- not touched my Solaris since it arrived.

Took it to the Surrey Hills at the weekend, and the more I ride it, the more capable I realise it is.

Now got a Surly OD crank, so a full range of gears available as well. It will climb anything. Even if I cant.

I had my first ride out on my 20.5" bike on Sunday. I was impressed, plenty of fun for an 'adventure' bike, it popped off roots and rocks easily and ate up swoopy singletrack. I even rode down some tricky (to me) wooden steps that I've previously faltered on.

A great deal from Cycle Gear with £15% / £150 of free kit thrown in.

Hello to all,

I currently have a 700c Surly LHT which I love, except that it wont handle tires bigger than 47 or 48mm wide.
The Longitude seems to be a great frameset for what I need, a commuter, tourer and ocasional mountain bike.

A couple of questions:
- how is the frame when loaded with racks and panniers? I commute with a reasonable load, so that's really important for me;
- how about mounting mudguards? Up front seems to be ok, but in the back I fail to see chainstay bridges.

Thanks in advance

I've got a Longitude for pretty much the same reasons as you.

I have a Tortec Epic Alloy rear rack mounted on the lower set of lugs to keep it nice and low. The most I've put on there is around 13Kg, which is nearly the weight of the bike itself. While it was really tough to carry up some steps, when riding I didn't notice the weight.

My bike shop put some mudguards on it a few months back. I've taken them back off now (thanks to the fact I've been on dry trails more than expected).
When the guards were mounted, the rack was mounted on the higher rear mounting points and the guards on the lower. From memory, the guards needed quite a long bolt for the attachment point near the BB, while the other mounting point was on the rack! The shop mounted the mudguards using a bracket they made to the rear light fixing point on the rack.
I also found that when the chain was on the smallest chainring, the front derailleur touched the rear mudguard so it's all a bit tight.

Anyway - I totally love the bike. I'm thinking of getting a slightly shorter stem as I'm 5ft11 and have the 19inch frame which I think is very slightly too long. I'm also thinking of putting some Big Apples on it as it's mostly used for road/dry track.

So, is anyone using one of these with both fat and non-fat tyres - eg two wheelsets (or just swapping tyres I suppose). I fancy being able to switch between being able to cover ground fast and being able to play.

Oh and can you still get 20.5 frames? Sounds from some of the earlier posts like maybe they're not available.

cosmicpop, I'm 5'11" on the 19 as well. I run a 720mm flat bar with a 35mm on-one stem and love it, very capable and confident bike like that. When I test rode the full build it was with the standard spec bar/stem combo, which worked, but not nearly as well for my preferences. Playing with your bar/stem setup is definitely worth a try!

I was told a month ago the 20.5" Longitude frames had sold out and it would be a case of waiting for 2016 models to filter through.

Fitting SKS Bluemels was quite easy

Front is just as normal, rear has a couple of bodges required.
For the rear
The bottom fitting by the bottom bracket I used a P clip.
Then using an off cut from the metal poles I used this as the top bridge.

Appologies if this has been asked... is this bike fun to ride - as well as being able to bikepack, commute, etc etc.. if you stick some big 29+ tires on it (or not) is it fun to blast about the woods for an hour or two?

Random - and unlikely to get a response - but did one of you Longitude owners ride through Buckfastleigh in Devon yesterday - Sun 24th May?

Looked like the grey and blue frameset only colourway. Would be interested to have a spin if you can be located and are local.

If you decide to choose the Large one make sure you don't overload it. I've heard from three different folks that it might clip off(especially when the bracket is in the middle position). I'm yet to loose mine 😉

Bikes/frames are all sold out with Sportline, the distributor, don't know which shop has any stock left...

I'm 6'2.5" with short legs/long torso and went for the 20.5" with 60mm stem/740mm lo-rise bars/offset seat post. If you're anywhere near West Mids you're more than welcome to take my rig for a spin.

off to check some online shops whether any frameset can still be found..

BTW any news on the 2016 model? ETA? any changes in geo, etc?

So good news is new model will be available soon (like this or next week) and will be basically the same, according to a guy I spoke with at unitycycleworks.
Whats left is to sort out the sizing issue.. Looking at genesis website 19" seems like the ideal size (I'm 6'2" or 187cm) however few pages back in this thread someone posted measurement of the top tube which is significantly shorter than on genesis website.. Can anyone confirm the top tube length? What do you 6'2" guys (and gals) ride?

The new one is 29/27.5+ wheels only. 29+ has been dropped.

I'd be surprised if they drop 29+ after selling their entire UK stock so quickly this year. Time will tell though as the 27" steamer continues to roll onwards.

Confirmed on facebook. Apparently they couldn't make it handle well with the big tyres due to the difference in diameter between 29 they sold it with and 29+. Smacks a bit of making up an excuse to cover a marketing decision to follow the 27+ trend.

Are they doing any 29ers or is this another company going completely 27"?
