[Closed] Gears indexed in stand but not while riding...

As above, chain is refusing to move into the smallest sprocket when riding even with no cable tension, but happy to do it on the stand. Various other indexing niggles and rattles further up the cassette as well, only when riding...

Gear inners/outers are pretty new.

Most likely culprit? Gear hanger, something mech related?

Gear hanger would be first thing to check

Sounds like the hanger. If you haven't got a mech alignment tool nip down to see Stuart

It's a FS. Although there appears to be no difference even when the shock is locked out. I'm a technical dunce, how would a small amount of chain growth stop it shifting to the bottom of the cassette?

I've got a spare hanger somewhere, will bung that on and see if it makes a difference. Did have quite a rocky ride last weekend, so may have taken a hit.

Cheers.

Well, that was easy. Didn't even have to swap the hanger - went to undo it and found mech bolt was slightly loose.

Thanks all.

Where's the embarrassed whistling emoji when you need it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Never normally works out like that. 15 minute jobs usually turn into half-day epics.

It's karma for all the other times where I've swapped out/disassembled perfectly good components searching for some bloody rattle or squeak.

I don't know how to do the embarrassed emoji any more, so I'll just have to be brazen about it. ๐Ÿ™‚
