A friend of mine has asked for some help from me, to fix his bike. It's an old knackered thing and the bottom bracket is shot and needs replacing. Now, if/when he tells me what speed system it is (6/7/8) how do i know which BB/axle length to source?
Made slightly complicated by the fact he lives in another town and will be dropping the bike off whith parts, so i can't measure the old BB beforehand.
It's been so long since i dealt with a square taper BB i've forgotten any knowledge i had about sizing them.
measure end to end of the shafts (ie longest length)
and the width of the bb shell of the bike

That's the thing - i haven't got the part to measure!
I'd ask him to do it but he just looks blank when i mention parts etc 🙂
