I've generally used Flak Jackets in the past, but those red tubes aren't going anywhere near my classy new build, so any thoughts on a good option instead? I can't run full length outers but do prefer a fully sealed system, hence the question. Any stealth solutions out there? Cheers.

Gore Ride-on if you can stretch to the £££££

I've found MudLovers sealed from Merlin a good alternative at 1/2 the price of the Gore. I think the main difference is that the inner cables are not teflon coated like the Gore are, but I've not noticed the difference in use.

TBH - I was a "sealed" man but now use XT/XTR combo - no probs here - no cable furr - change the cables every 18 months or so just coz I think I should 🙂

I tend to change my cables every 6mths so just get whatever is cheapest on CRC. Its such a simple job, and new cables shift so nice..

XTR again - ferrules are all sealed but the with the advantage of taking the system apart and re-lubing...

Yes, Shimano and SRAM use standard sized cables.

From my experience, you can't go wrong with a full length outer and decent inner cables.

If you want to be able to purge the cable of muck, then Middleburn do a small grommet that fits in the middle of the outer which conceals a grease port.

SP41 and teflon inners. Full length cables are great at keeping all the shit in...

I use the Flak Jackets but without using the red bits over the bare cable for the same reason as you. The runs are pretty short so really not much opportunity for dirt to get in

Pedalhead - the XTR cable set comes with those and yes I find they do a good job!

I have loads of the cover stuff (yours is red) in black if you want some?

I use these myself. They're a fraction of the cost of Gore, last better and are all black.

Rather than having a continuous inner liner (like the gore ones) They use sections of thin outer to cover the cable between stops, and similar caps to those you linked to.

Cheers Roger, those look like a bargain. I've been mixing & matching outers against the frame & the Flak Jackets definitely look better (without the red bits) than black, so I reckon I might stick with those after all.

R_R...definitely interested, will drop you an email.

I thought the cables were different (1.2mm Shimano) and 1.1 mm for SRAM) BUT that it actually makes no noticeable difference (and when I asked a shop they were not aware of any difference)

Always used Transfil Flying Snake fully sealed but now use full outer & standard cable with Middleburn cable oilers - just give them a flush through the oilers with GT85 every month or so.
