Good morning and Happy New Year.
After a little advice as my 510 Garmin failing again yesterday and I'm on the look out for a replacement. Currently looking at a 520 Garmin but what other options are out there?? I don't use it for mapping, just real time data and something that logs it all back onto Garmin Express, ideally with bluetooth data transfer.
So far with my 510 I've tried - Factory reset, Device reset and its got the latest update on it. It works for a short period (not same length of time when it does cut off) then seems to just stop the ride, discard it without saving and goes back to the home screen.
Or does anyone know the cost to send off to Garmin for a replacement or repair (its out of warranty) as I can't find any info on the UK site
Cheers
Carlos
I got a Lezyne GPS earlier this year which has been very reliable. Syncs to strava but not sure about garmin connect.
Humm, I’ll have a look but get that only a Garmin device will sync the connect/express
Give Garmin a call....they'll probably either repair it or offer you a cheap refurbished one
You can send of to Garmin and they'll replace for a nominal fee. I got my 500 replaced for about £60. That said it's started playing up 2 years later and it has a habit of corrupting the time data on longer rides, a bit annoying when I did a ton yesterday to complete the Festive 500! The corrupted data is fixable using fixfitfiles or whatever and can upload to Strava but Garmin Connect won't recognise the file!
Just give Garmin a call, they're pretty helpful.
Edge 130 looks pretty good if you don't use mapping, clear display and nice and simple.
Try installing an older firmware version, this worked for my Garmin a little while ago when it decided to have some issues
Firmware versions are here
http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/
To Install follow these instructions (copied from another site)
1. Connect your Garmin Device to your computer with a USB Cable.
2. Backup anything on the device you wish to save.
Note 1: ASSUME ALL THE DATA ON YOUR GARMIN DEVICE WILL BE ERASED IN THIS PROCESS.
Note 2:
Your Ride Data is in \Garmin\Activities
Most of the device Settings are in the following files:
\Garmin\Settings\Settings.fit
\Garmin\Sports\Cycling_Train.fit
\Garmin\Device.fit
Note 3:
I do not reccomend trying to backup and restore the settings files after changing firmwares.
However, if you had backed up these files previously, when you were using the firmware that you are now loading, then putting these files back in the correct location will restore the device to the same configuration it was at.
3. Obtain the firmware file, then extract the GCD firmware file if it is a compressed format.
4. Rename, if required, the firmware file to load to:
GUPDATE.GCD
5. Copy the firmware file to the Garmin device in the \Garmin folder
6. Disconnect the device from your computer.
7. Power on the device.
8. You will be prompted with the following:
The software on the device is newer than the software your are attempting to install. Installing the older software will erase all user data. Install the older software?
Select Check Mark
9. The Firmware Load will start then finish.
10. You will now need to setup the device again as if were new from the factory.
Edge 130 +1. I got one in the summer and find it perfect for my needs, which sound similar.
Thanks for the replies. I didn’t get round to the previous firmware install But I did bite the bullet and bought a 520 plus. Got a great price from Halfords due to a cock up thier end (£149) which they honoured. BOUNUS!!
