I have had the 830 for a good few years now and it's been great (except in the rain). I have solved the rain issue with a remote.
But recently it has started acting oddly with regards getting routes/courses on to the garmin. Activities are absolutely fine and appear on Strava or elsewhere pretty well instantly.
Routes used to be fine, but it became hit and miss and then just miss. I solved the issue after other attempts with a full reset of the garmin. Easier and better than I expected as profiles were not lost or maps I had preloaded. Result.
But I am now left with a new oddity. It will not connect to my house WiFi saying it is unprotected so does not ask for a password. It is secured before you ask!
No idea how to fix it, other than ignore it, or go out and upgrade.
You've checked for software updates? Whenever mine starts acting weirdly, it's the first thing I check.
If you have a PC, then plug the 830 into that, go into File Manager and you should see a Garmin\WIFI folder. You could try (after taking a backup the contents) deleting the contents and trying to reconnect to your home network.
The 830 is all up to date, apparently that is handled automatically via Connect or Express.
@Scotroutes - Itried connecting the garmin & can see the mounted Garmin folder. There was a wifi folder with a nested folder 'http' and then 'client' b ut that was empty. I could see nothing else that looked relevant.

presumably you mean WPA2. That’ll be your problem.
The 830 apparently only supports WPA which is these days considered insecure. Can you sync it via Bluetooth/cable instead?
Regarding the routes, there's a 'not well documented' limit on the number of courses that the Edge (or Fenix) can store locally - IIRC it's 100. If you get to 100, then new ones just fail to sync without any warning or error message.
Edit : My 830 is connected to a WPA2 wifi, so I don't think it's that.

Simply by buying a garmin remote.
As well as working with rain it is actually much nicer for scrolling through the screens anyway
WiFi, I do indeed mean wpa2. It worked fine before I reset the device.
Number of routes. I did have quite a few on the device before reset, now just a handful, but I had also deleted a load prior to the reset so by definition I must have been less than any theoretical max.
All odd. I'll persevere with the WiFi angle. We are pretty remote so I am not too concerned with WiFi hacking so might try dropping to wpa
