I was just about to order a Garmin 810 but realised I can't download the Garmin Connect Mobile app onto my windows phone - android or apple only. I'm not very tech-savvy so need your help. Does this mean I can't use the tracking feature on the Garmin if I can't link it to my phone? I know there are other tracking 'apps' but for several reasons I was going for the 810 and this was one of them. Is there any way round this or am I wasting my time buying the Garmin if I don't have an android or iphone?
Thanks.
Sadly, that's the way it looks at the moment. AFAIK they have no intention of releasing a Windows Phone app at any point.
There are app based alternatives to live tracking but no, you can't use Connect with a Windows phone.
Thing is though, even if this function is vital to you - and I can't see why it would be - the problem isn't with the Garmin it's with the Windows phone. So you may as well just get the Garmin and sort the tracking out afterwards, because there isn't really a usable Windows phone alternative.

You can use a laptop or computer to upload the ride. Using a phone gives a live update of your progress to others if you share your rides. Otherwise the Garmin Connect on a mobile is ca cut down version of the website.
personally I have never really understood the whole live tracker thing outside of races.
My other half can manage without know ing where i am at all times luckily .
810 is a good bit of kit, so buy it anyway
That's really why I ended up going for a 500 than 510.
You could still use endomondo if you desperately need live tracking
Yeah, I'm ok to upload activities via a laptop but I specifically want to be able to use the real time tracking. That's a shame.
Why is it so important to use the Connect version of real time tracking and not one of the app based alternatives though?
