Does anybody use one off road? is the mount up to the job or do you have to put it into your backpack?

I use one off road. The mount is plenty secure. However, I mount it on my stem or when mounted on the bar it's been on the OS part next to the stem. It would be less stable on a "normal" 25.4 bar, but should be fine with a shorter o-ring.

The mounts on the newer edges 500 & 800 are much more secure than the 05 series.
The only issue I have is that my stem is too short (70mm I think) for the new mount even though the 05 mounts went on fine.

I mount mine on my 25.4 bars and it's fine. You get loads of different length mounting bands. Never had an issue with it coming off. I really enjoy the 500 and it's one of those things you don't really need which you cannot do without. ๐Ÿ˜‰
