Hi
I always struggle with this.
I just want to create a new route on my OS Maps browser which I save as a GPX route. I can then download this to my Mac.
I then want to send it to my edge 830 so that I can follow turn by turn.
Dragging and dropping into connect gives me an error (I think there are too many waypoints IIRC?)
Do I ned to convert t another file type for turn by turn? How do I do this?
This drives me nuts. I should be out riding...
also - what the F&%$ is that basecamp app about.... looks like something from the 80's. I think I've used it before to convert gpu to a route or something...
Make the route on OS maps and export to GPX - Drag the GPX into the 'newfiles' folder on the garmin.
I haven't used it for a while but the OS maps online route builder always used to make route files that were very bloated and often my Dakota couldn't read the whole route.
I used to get around it by loading the gpx into bikehike.co.uk and then exporting as a track. A fraction of the file size but still worked perfectly.
I think thats the issue. Sometimes the Garmin doesn't like the OS route as it uses too many waypoints. I think I've converted it in basecamp but I don't remember how. I'll try bike hike.
This is OS being sh1te. They export the gpx as route points and the 830 wants track points. I’ve moaned at them for it but being OS they know better. You need to import it into Basecamp then convert to a track then save to device.
