[#1241913]

been running my dt wheels with rim strip and maxxis non ust tyres for ove a year no probs also running xm321 with bmx tubes and schwalbe ust tyres no probs again over a year

even tho the dt rimstrip said i must use ust tyres. anyways i wanted to swap tyres round but keep the wheels as they were on the h/t and full sus

after a few broken levers i got the ust tyre on the dt rim pumped it up to 50psi so i would pop on to bead ok so far 😉

i then checked where the thorn i removed was to see if it was sealed too and as if my magic it blew off one side of the rim now my hands stings like a ****er and my ear wont stop ringing ;-(

so would i have come of the rim as it wasnt seated right or is 50psi too much to seat it (tho im sure ive seated them before exactly the same)

thinking of going to bloody tubes again but 5 big thorns sealed in two rides is really putting me off

You shouldn't pump them above 40psi ideally.

smarts doesn't it
happend to me ghettoing a rim once 👿

50psi is a lot imo don't usually need anywhere near that much to get any of my tyres to seat
Only ever use a track pump on stans rims though

took an hour at least for it to stop when I did it 😥
fingers felt numb for a good while too

once you've recovered you've got the lovely job of tiding up sealant
which has no doubt covered everything in a 6ft radius
garage or House 😳 ?

I ghetto'd 2 Single ply High Rollers in summer - worked first time and never let me down.......

went into garage last night as I thought I better put a Swampthing on the front end - jesus the tyre would just not seat after 2 hours and £4/5 stans sealant all over garage floor - I sacked it off as a bad job and put a tube in and will try another day!

I have heard some people use 3 layers of gaffer tape on the rim, it's harder to get tyre on but tyre seats straight away - will try when I got some spare time!

I have just done a ghetto conversion and yes getting my Kendas to take air with a track pump was a bitch

Until

I wrapped insulation tape 3 times arround the rim and put the ghetto tube over the rim and the tyres are now a bitch to fit BUT they inflate immediatly

RESULT

This is just part of the tubeless initiation, 3 years ago I had a speccy tubeless tire explode off a cross trail rim, my neighbour was up his garden at the time and thought I have let my shotgun off on the patio! I particulary liked the spray pattern of stans juice that travelled up to 4 meters!

I was well over 50lbs at the time, ever since I have stayed under 44lbs and have been safe.

For nail/thorn oblivious riding, well worth it.

it was a cheap experiment that worked out well - but can't seem to replicate it with a Swampthing! Will keep trying though!
